This 14 inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip is viewed as a strong base model for heavier everyday work, with the price drawing praise and the 16GB memory seen as enough for performance today. The M5 is described as very fast, while the Pro chassis is favored over the MacBook Air for more demanding use. The main concerns are future proofing, since RAM and SSD are not upgradeable, and the 512GB storage feels tight for a long lifespan. There is also disappointment that it has not moved to Wi Fi 7 and that a lighter design is still wanted.

  • The deal price can be attractive for shoppers who want a MacBook Pro configuration at a lower cost.

  • The MacBook Pro platform suits heavier workloads better than an Air because it uses active cooling with fans.

  • The M5 chip can deliver strong performance, which can make 16GB RAM feel sufficient for day-to-day tasks.

  • The deal can be a practical option for buyers who want a base-model MacBook Pro without paying Apple's higher upgrade pricing.

  • Future-proofing concerns can arise because 16GB RAM may feel limiting over time for demanding workflows.

  • The specific configuration shoppers may want, such as 24GB RAM with 512GB SSD, may not be available in stock.

  • RAM and SSD upgrades are generally not possible on MacBook Pro models from 2012 onward because Apple solders components to the logic board.

  • The model may lag on connectivity expectations because it has not moved to Wi‑Fi 7.

What are you currently using? You got a Mac of some type to do this work.

is the hard drive and RAM upgradable? No, you generally cannot upgrade the RAM on a MacBook Pro. Starting with the Retina models in 2012, Apple began soldering the RAM directly onto the logic board, making it non-upgradable after purchase. For any MacBook Pro model from 2012 or later, you will need to buy a new machine with the RAM capacity you need, as it is no longer possible to add more memory.
is the hard drive upgradeable... newer models (2016 and later) have SSDs that are soldered to the logic board and cannot be upgraded.
Yes the M5 is the shit... but really if you want your machine to last ten years, I would get more RAM and a bigger harddrive. I will also say that my 12 year old laptop has 16GB of RAM which I upgraded to twelve years ago.... it is a pc but the same is true for a mac... need at least 32GB if not 64GB IMHO.
Also, this was a decision by apple to sodder everything so they can charge you more money.

Between this deal and the MBA M4 with 24gb ram would you say the MBA is more future proof? Or is there value in getting this MBP and having more trade in value for it in 5 years perhaps?

This is the MBA deal:

depends on your use case. Macbook air is generally for more lighter tasks and everyday users, while macbook pro is for heavier use. The air also only has passive cooling (no fans). Regardless, more ram is always nice

Wait this say M5 this is the new chip on sale already?
Microcenter has historically sold a lot of new tech (e.g. Intel CPUs) at lower-than-MSRP for quite a while, this is nothing new.

Think the price drops a lil more for Black Friday?

Of course. Itfoesnt go higher. I would never buy a high ticket itembefore black friday unless it was absolutely needed for work. Then I would try to use a program where I could return or price match.

The question becomes... which PC can perform tasks faster and the M5 chip is SO STRONG and RAM is less of an issue with apple then pc. I am sure 16GB is fine, I am talking about future proofing.

Apple really needs to work on getting their laptop weight lighter.
There's a rumored redesign for next year's M6.

People keep perpetuating this RAM myth... no it is not less of an issue. I have a M4 Max with 48GB of RAM and I fill it up just as fast as my windows PC. MacOS is more efficient but it isn't magical.

True. If you want it you to last longer, should go with at least 32gb RAM and 1TB SSD but would cost a lot because of Apple's harsh pricing on upgrades. This is also a good deal if anyone is looking for pretty much a base model.

Search YouTube and Reddit for anyone who has done benchmarks comparing those two with those programs and report back
