Most people would not be able to assemble them from the instructions, but it is really easy to do. The natural impulse is to try to fit the tabs into the slots. This would never work. You just need to bend the tabs inward and once you do they lock.
I suspect that they were on sale at 50% off for $20, because of the poor instructions. Just look at the assembly videos on YouTube. They are actually nice boxes at a low price!
