Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Intel and AMD have both said they're going full AI-assisted hardware next cycle, so the Core Ultra is a preview of the permanent things to come. They're cheaper to produce because of the perpetual chip shortage, tariffs and inflation than the raw semiconductor power we've been used to. We've hit the wall of price to performance.

For a laptop CPU, this does have decent benchmarks, but if I am spending money on a PC with a dedicated GPU I am definitely not going that route.

Laptop CPU is an absolutely insane take

It's exactly what this model is, it's a performance laptop chip.

Is this a good price even if it is a laptop chip and so dimm ram? How much will it bottleneck this GPU?

The laptop CPU is actually quite powerful and coupled with a very good thermal solution means it will push even faster than the laptop benchmarks.

Yeah, it's not crypto mining this time but AI datacenters that are sucking up all the chip fabrication capacity and ohh look Nvidia just hit $5 billion and I can tell you that that's not from gamers.

Bought this last week. Pretty impressed with it. One of the most noticeable things is how quiet it is.

According to notebook check, this processor has a 55 W TDP but a pl2 of 160 w. Does that mean that this can operate between those two ranges to boost performance? I also noticed it compares favorably to the AMD ryzen 9600x desktop processor at 65 W, so I'm curious which would actually use more power.

ChatGPT is telling this cpu has aggressive throttling, that is independent of cooling. Are there any long sustained benchmarks that can show sustained power beyond a shortish benchmark?

Thanks, ended up ordering this as my next desktop to replace my quite old 1070ti build. Been pricing out building my own but these days deals get you cheaper with obviously cheaper OEM parts but can't say is it even worth the hassle spending more for piece picked parts.

The CPU argument is kind of moot. 95% of the performance of an i9-14900k and that's not completely taking into account the better cooling in a desktop. Live in a high power cost area so saving a bit isn't a bad thing.

couldn't use the id.me discount. When I tried, it would verify me, but then removed the other discount codes. I guess it's one or the other and in this case, the coupon codes are more savings.
