Just bought the 5ah starter pack a week ago. If this was 5ah, i'd return that and get the free tool! bummer! still not bad for folks starting out. Also, im curious if the hack is still available to get one or the other after returning one to the store?

You don't get a "free" tool. you get a discounted price on one of several offered.
The price of the "free" tool is split and discounted from each item, totaling $200 at checkout.

Thank you for correcting me. I purchased the two 5ah battery (+ charger and a Makita bag) combo a few days ago, but I need a new blower- so for the exact same amount of money, I ordered this pair of 4ah batteries, a rapid charger and a leaf blower. I'll sacrifice the (estimated) 20% additional run time for the blower.

Thank you so much for correcting me!

As an aside- this YT video attempts to show a real-world comparison between the run times of the various capacity Makita batteries:

You can get a 5ah battery as your free tool also.
