I bought this a couple hours ago, along with another AMS2 and a bunch of filament, here's what I learned along the way:
--- I was originally going to buy the AMS1 combo + another AMS1 because I figured it would be cheaper. Turns out, in my case the price difference is really small because I wanted 2, and I went for 2xAMS2. I don't remember exactly how much, but to upgrade both of them was less than $100 difference because you have to buy the AMS hub separately ($40) if you go the AMS1 route.
--- The AMS2 combo comes with a wall power adapter for the AMS2, which you need if you're drying filament with the P1S. If you buy a second AMS2, it doesn't come with one, and you need to buy it separately (like $35)
--- If you plan to get bambu filament at some point, buy it at the same time as the printer. They gave me an "add-on" discount on all of them which I think is equal to the maximum bulk discount on filament, but just a la carte. So every filament was discounted 45%, which made PLA/PETG/ABS with spool included like $12.50/ea, regardless of how many I ordered.

Its 599 if you go with the buffer instead of the hub. Hub is for 2+ AMS, buffer is for 1 AMS (but you can modify it to work wih multiple AMS's)

The online discussions and few videos I've seen have all said P2S is worth waiting for. It is an upgraded X1C at $600. The most common comment is regretting buying the P1S. It probably won't go on sale until next June, 2026. Get P1S if you want to save money and need it now.

P2S is available everywhere except USA. You have one specific person to thank for that problem.

For someone who is new to this, can someone recommend add-ons? There was a Bambu thread some time ago that someone made some recommendations, but I can't find it now.

i'm hooked on kingroon from aliexpress. pla and petg 10 packs are commonly $75-85 with $10-15 coupons. i average 6.75/kg for petg. the reason i settled on that brand is they ship from the us - so i get dirt cheap filament in 2-3 days to my doorstep. i still have to go elsewhere for more galaxy/wood/glow etc but for utility filament it's the best i know of
How's the print quality? I worry about AliExpress rolls sitting in a warehouse for ages and inconsistent thickness.I use sunlu and get them for ~$10/kg

90% of my spools are pla silk for kid's toys.

If you're going to get the hardened nozzle for abrasive filaments, might as well get the hardened extruder gear assembly too.

Go to best buy and buy an obsolete AMS and no tax. 98% of us here pay tax.
This is for AMS 2 which is better , its worth the extra money if you have a print farm
Also serviceability is better on the new AMS2 for things like resolving filament flow issues like clogs.

For a 10 year old and a dad who has never used these, is this a good deal? Vs the Flashforge AD5X that was recently on Ali Express for around $250, this is more than double in price? Would I ever need the hub version?
As a dad with a 10 year old yes. I own a daycare and bought this machine for the school age kids to get exposed to the tech. It's very plug and play. Make sure you keep the bed clean and the filament dry (ams 2 has a dryer) and you won't have any issues. I let the teachers use it and it's only been down once in a year of a lot of use.

Are glow in the dark filaments brittle? Mines seem to snap quite easily and I read this is a sign of moisture. But I've dried it in a filament dryer for several hours and it still snapping quite easily. It gave my p1s its first clog in ages. And I do have the hardened steel extruder

I hear about clogs with glow-in-the-dark all the time, but I still have the original nozzle that came with my P1S from the factory and I've never had a single clog with Hatchbox PLA.

Do we need the AMS hub if we want to get additional AMS in the future?
Found this reddit post that seems to say there is a workaround: https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab...ub_at_all/

Why extra plates? I've got thousands of hours on all my Bambu printers and all are still using the textured plates they came with and all look like new. Regularly/properly cleaning them should make em last for many many prints.
Feel the same as OP about having spent a couple hundred more on the P1S compared to this deal, as well as accounting for filament storage, but agree with you on plates. Wipe down with isopropyl after every print, be sparing with the scraper; my PEI plate looks/performs like day 1.

I've been printing so regularly that I'm happy to chalk up the extra cost to a few months' additional practice and learning.

I got this for my kid when he was 8 yrs old selling the idea if you design something in 3d with tinker cad, some blender boolean cuts we can make your own toys. With the initial help from me for an year or so now I just tell him to change to this color or that color (we do not have AMS) and he can do it himself independently. Thinking process changes a bit on how to minimize the support or not have a support so it is ingrained in his mind now while designing and it comes with experience. He creates his own stls for school, friends, himself and his brother and prints it all by himself making the filament changes. Go for it your kid will also have fun and learn a lot.

I dont think you need to even clean with IPA after every print , unless you screwed up your bed with not leveling it properly. i have no residue at all
