Set your delivery date to Nov 1st or later that way you are eligible for the extended holiday return period until Jan 31st if a better deal pops up.

You are correct that the official policy for most stores that price match Amazon is to only honor it for items that are both sold&shipped by Amazon. What do you think the odds are that the guy at the counter at Best Buy or Microcenter is doing their job well enough to know and bothers to check that part? I regularly have Autozone price match Walmart, half the time the kid at the register punches in the wrong new price on one or more of the items. If it is in my favor "I fail to notice" if not I correct him.

You don't bother wasting your time trying to help a platform that does not want to be better.
You support better merchants when you can and take advantage of Amazon in instances when it may overwhelmingly benifit you.

When that happens you know they hire 30k+ at other locations right? I got an email recently to "come back". I worked there 10 years ago for a few months as a kid. The location they wanted me to work at recently hasn't hired in years because I recommend people to work at amazon for a quick gig all the time.

Point is they are moving employees around from areas that dropped in volume to areas that spike in volume.
