That's an interesting perception. In my experience, the value/performance tipping point sits a little north of this. Most people are looking for at least a 5070 or 5070 Ti, and 32 GB RAM is the minimum requirement. At this point, it seems that it'll be a while before we reach below $1,000. Of course, by the time we get there, the tipping point will likely have shifted again.

I don't think anyone wants that. Maybe Amd 32gb ddr5 5070 for 999. I mean at least for gaming. I was playing battlefield 6 last night and my ram frequently went over 16gb sometimes as high as 19gb .

That's mainly with AsRock motherboards and all of that news kind of died down around March of this year so to claim that's it's an "alarming rate" is very dubious. Don't believe me? Here's the article:

You can go on forums right now and see it is still happening. Here is one from last few days. I am sure I could find many more examples easily. Just telling folks to do their own research about that cpu specifically.

Well that's not comforting to hear. I'm one of the ones looking for a 5080/9800x3D rig this BF/Cyber...

Do I just need to fork over the extra cash and get a 5090 rig w/ 9950x3D?

But then...I'm seeing a lot (I'm sure it's a vocal minority) of pics on the pcmasterrace subreddit showing burnt pin connectors for the 5090. Granted, it seemed to be with this yellow MSI cable only. Also, 1000w PSUs are what a lot of the 5090 prebuilts come with, yet people say that's not even enough. It's so confusing.

Finally choosing to get myself a badass rig to broaden my gaming horizon and I keep running into what seem to be red flags.

Always see $1200-$1400 for the 5070ti and 32gb ram, never a little less for a little less. I always forget how garbage windows 11 and newer games/programs are, using tons of ram. Most normie users can do 16gb and be fine with room to upgrade.

If you know about gaming and that's what you are going for, most people don't care about ultra settings and even less don't have the type of monitor to display what they can theoretically push out. They want to fire up a game and play it to where it doesn't lag or stutter. an i5/i7, 16gb, 5060it/5070 can handle most "games" today, when referenced, most pick out BF6 with ultra settings to see if your rig is capable.

It is predominantly ASRock motherboards causing the 9800X3D and other 9000 series CPUs to fail, I would return the PC if I received an ASRock motherboard personally. A lot of better vendors are not pairing 9800x3d with ASRock due consumer awareness about the failures (and likely rate of returns).

Meh I'm not spending 1k for a console experience. I'd just buy a console

underrated comment. there are tons of horror stories on r/asrock with the 9800X3d. but they've been dying on other mobo's too. my build is 2 years old now and I'm tickled with my 7800x3d and taichi lite mobo. 9800X3d sketches me out and doesn't have enough performance boost to justify it, not without a good warranty, or insurance

I've seen that the asrock mobos are the main culprits, other failures are par for any component. I got 9800x3d on asus prime mobo with asus prime 5080 32 gb ram AIO and 1tb ssd for 2300 in July and nothing has overheated yet. Surprisingly the LG oled from costco is what's giving me problems with artifacts.
