No one is really training an LLM using a gaming GPU. Zuck isn't buying up 5090s to power Meta's Llama, they use H100s which cost around $30,000 per GPU and they bought 350,000 of them. I've worked with an H100 before for an HPC conferences and they aren't designed for gaming but rather CUDA performance.

OK. But semiconductor production capacity is limited, so everyone has to bid for it. The AI chips will get the highest bids, so GPUs have to increase in price if any are to be manufactured. I'm sure other chips that would use the same lithography processes are suffering as well.

Why would I uber kids to the arcade when I can easily make more by chauffeuring higher paying adults?

I wouldn't buy AMD after they screwed over owners of RDNA2 cards with their announcement yesterday. Some video cards were only 2 years old before they stopped mainstream support. Yes the cards are getting basic security patches, but they won't be optimized or fixed for future games. Nvidia has supported some of the cards for nearly 10 years.
