I got this for $400 and felt like it was a good price. Still feel that way. Make sure to get a beefy amplifier.

Amazing price for a great set of headphones. A little bit on the heavy side for long sessions (ymmv). A modern amp with at least a couple of watts of power should do well to drive these. Even a Schiit Vali (1.5 watts) comfortably drives these on high gain and sounds good to my ears.

These are awesome, but they can easily lead you down a rabbit hole of finding an amp that delivers the proper output. Hifiman recommends 2 watts (at 50 ohms). There aren't many reasonably priced, dedicated headphone amps that fit the bill.

They are, I contacted Hifiman Customer Support, and they stated that the Hifiman Local Store is one of their official stores. This what they stated "Thanks for reaching out.
Please rest assured that Hifiman Local Store is also our official store.
Here is the official stores list for your reference: https://store.hifiman.com/official-stores.
Feel free to place the order at any time."

Got my pair today. They are quite incredible. Significantly more transparent and detailed compared to my old trusty pair of HE-560 v2.

But they do need a powerful amp indeed to show what they can do. My iFi iDSD Micro can drive them pretty loud but sound... stinks.

Old friend Auralic Taurus MKII really rocks them on balanced output. Did not bother try single-ended output yet, as it is much weaker anyway.

This was a significant upgrade in sound quality. Although that headband... is not very comfortable. Some modding will be in order to increase comfort.

P.S. Tried single-ended mode as on paper it is supposed to be capable of a bit more current than balanced mode - with balanced mode capable of higher voltage... and indeed headphones sounded a bit more 'clear' as HE6 benefits from current headroom more than voltage headroom.

Do you know how this one compares to the sundara or the edition xs?

Since I do not own either of those, I do not have strong personal opinion. Theoretically, they are higher end then Sundara, but more difficult to drive - if you do not have a powerful amp, Sundara's might do better, but with good amp HE6 should run circles around Sundara. Edition XS I think is rumored to be more airy/open/spacious, but likely loses in the naturalness, details and macro-dynamics to HE6 (again, as long as amp is powerful enough, with weaker amp Edition XS would likely be better).
