This Firebat A5P looks like a strong budget mini PC for casual gaming, emulation, and everyday desktop use, thanks to the Ryzen 7 8745HS and Radeon 780M. The 2x8GB dual channel RAM is a welcome surprise, and real world reports point to smooth 1080p play, low idle power, and a clean Windows 11 Home install on some units. The main drawbacks are the confusing port and network specs, with USB4 and Oculink missing, USB C details unclear, and Ethernet listed as either dual 1GbE or dual 2.5GbE. A clean reinstall and driver backup are commonly treated as part of setup, making it a capable but slightly mysterious pick.

  • buyers who plan to do a clean Windows install and manage drivers themselves because multiple commenters recommend wiping/reinstalling and backing up drivers first, and report clean installs with no bloatware or easy driver recovery.

  • casual PC gamers and emulation fans who want a small Windows mini PC because commenters say the 780M iGPU is "amazing for casual gaming" and that it should run a lot of games well if you lower settings/resolution.

  • buyers who want a mini PC with dual-channel RAM out of the box because commenters say it ships with 2x8GB (dual-stick), which helps GPU performance compared with the common single-stick 16GB configuration.

  • people building a "console-like" setup for older games (CS:GO, Total War Shogun, Company of Heroes 2) because one commenter says they mainly play games from 12-15 years ago and expects the mini PC to handle them without issue.

  • home media/home automation users who want to run services on a mini PC because someone asked about running Plex and Home Assistant simultaneously, implying this is the kind of always-on use case people consider for the unit.

  • buyers who want to trust the vendor's preloaded OS/drivers without wiping because multiple commenters recommend wiping/reinstalling due to bloatware/malware risk and/or concerns about hidden backdoors/rootkits in OEM-provided software.

  • people who specifically need reliable 2.5GbE networking because commenters report conflicting NIC specs (dual 2.5GbE vs dual 1GbE) and at least one unit received with only 1Gbps ports, which was a deal-breaker for their setup.

  • buyers who want sustained high performance for non-iGPU workloads (encoding/rendering) because commenters say the unit's power limits look constrained (e.g., PL1 45W / PL2 54W) and that for non-iGPU gaming/encoding the difference may not be worth spending extra versus RAM/storage upgrades.

  • buyers who need eGPU/advanced expansion via USB4/OCuLink because commenters say the unit lacks usb4 or oculink, so there's "no egpu of any kind," and they also call out limited video/port options (only one USB-C).

  • buyers who care about Windows sleep behavior (S3) because one commenter says S3 sleep doesn't work in Windows on their unit (only modern sleep/hibernate), while S3 works in Linux.

It's subsidized by state malware. It's very similar to how Ring/Blink camera footage is processed through Amazon servers for AI training and sharing with Flock/LEOs. Similarly the US government and Saudi Arabian government purchased EA games so they pretty much have a back door on any windows PC that has Xbox Games/ EA App installed. Generally if something tech-related is free or cheap, 9/10 times it's because they're making money off of your data. The sad part is more and more companies are realizing they can charge more and sell your data.

This never stops unless everyone stops giving them money.
as a cybersec professional...seems plausible. but honestly in this day and age what government doesnt have your data? Big brothers Meta, Google, Amazon, AT&T already do and probably share it with the US government

I bought their Firebat A6 a little while back, and I like it! If this was available at that price I would have went with that! I would recommend you back up your drivers, and reinstall windows. That's just me. I haven't seen this torn down, but I would bet it's only a single stick of ram like the A6. I removed the grill that probably works as a rf shield and heatsink for your ram and storage. I was adding a second nvme for batocera, and I didn't have another thick piece of thermal pad. I just put heatsinks individually on the nvmes that I had laying around. Mine is weaker than this one. Mine has the 6800h and 680m IGPU, but it works great for me!

edit; it looks like it says it comes with 2 sticks of 8gb ram which dual channel work work better than single channel especially when the IGPU allocates it. Also the USB c on mine was probably around 10Gb/s, but I could get video through it. It would not power the A6 though. My monitor supports video and charging through USB C, but the A6 doesn't power the device through C. That would have allowed me to use just one cable for video, power, and plugging accessories through the monitor. This A5P seems to be equally mysterious about their USB C port.
so why do you reccomend reinstalling windows? comes preinstalled with too much bloatware? Can you just grab the drivers from their website or use Windows update to pull them?

I'm pretty sure these cheap Chinese mini-PCs usually come with Windows preinstalled, but you're probably going to want to do a clean install anyway, or use Linux
Are you sure that malware is not kernel-level?

It will be amazing for casual gaming. This iGPU is like 2 generations newer than the SteamDeck and that's been selling like hotcakes.

It's hard to relate what to expect unless I know your baseline. It's probably around the power of a GTX 1050 ti. You could probably play almost anything if you turn down the settings and resolution. Cyberpunk at 480p?😅 Probably not that bad. It should work great for emulation, and there is a metric ton of PC games which should run fine on it. I guess it depends on what kind of frame rate you feel is playable as well. You should be able to play forza horizon 5 on lower settings. I was able to play tony hawk 1&2 from my steam OS drive in my gpd win max 2 which hads the 7840u and 780m. I did have to turn the resolution down to 1080p because it seemed choppy at native res. I'm not 100% on this, but it appears to have a second nvme slot that covers over the wifi/Bluetooth card in the pictures. In theory you could add your own oculink port with an nvme adapter, and connect it to a GPU dock. I would probably have fun with it as is though.
great feed back. i mainly play games from like 12-15 years ago (CS:GO, Total War Shogun, Company of Heroes 2), so it looks like this thing can handle it no problem.

Good deal, I'm returning my A6 I bought a couple weeks ago for 220. This one has a faster cpu, dual channel ram, and USB C PD. Can't beat it for the price.
Where are you seeing it has USB C PD? I couldn't find that info in the details.

If you're a target for the US government (or any government with advanced intelligence like China, Israel, Russia, etc.) and you have any device connected to the internet that is in any way traceable to you - you're being monitored. If you have a camera or microphone on that device connected to the internet and you're a target, you're being recorded as well.

There's steps you can take to make it more difficult for them, but you won't be able to prevent them accessing your device if they really wanted to. My background is also Cyber Security, currently specialized in IAM tools, 25 years total IT experience.

That being said, if you're not a target, you should still take reasonable steps to not silently consent to the collection of your data. Whether you believe it matters or not, you should probably install your own OS (try Ubuntu instead of Windows) on any pre-built PC from a vendor you don't trust and you should opt-out of data collection whenever possible, also you shouldn't be giving out personal information to websites unless it's actually necessary to receive a product or service. If they ask for your address and you know it's not needed for the purpose of the service, enter a fake address, phone number, etc. Bad data is worthless to data collectors.

OK I see that now thanks. The Amazon picture you can clearly see the lightning bolt on the USB port as well. The Amazon description says dual 1G LAN but both images on Ali and Amazon say it's 2.5G LAN.

At any rate, I can't seem to get the USDEAL44 code to work.

You mean like a malicious UEFI firmware? While possible, I don't think there have been any documented cases with these mini-PCs, at least not that I've seen in some quick Googling.

That said, I wouldn't trust their Windows iso, if they offer one. Use your own iso downloaded from Microsoft, or some Linux distro like I said. And wipe their drive before installing, obviously

The bigger risk with this purchase is that it's a scam IMO

Those companies do, you are correct. My point still stands, however.

Also, I don't really like the...well, it's not really an argument as much as it is a rationalization- that you should throw the baby out with the bath water in this case because someone already has some kind of data on you. You're in cybersec, you should know the importance of layers of security - are you going to tell your boss/client that they may as well drop every protection because exploits exist, or say something like "well if someone really wants a way in, they're going to find it"?

I don't think it's good practice to "open wide" if you're already getting railed by one bad actor. You'd have to be down in some serious black and white thinking and defeatism to reach this conclusion - or perhaps you'd simply be a demoralization agent. After all, if it was one and done, we wouldn't have people doing these things at all, right?
