What's the story on the whole firmware debacle with these. I need a few 1Tb drives for my UnRaid cache pool, but I don't want to introduce unhealthy drives.

Apparently there was a firmware update (1B2QJXD7) in Feb 2023 that fixed the health issue, though that did not reset the wear counters, so that might be a good reason to stay away from used/refurbished 990s (which to be clear these are not).

Why would you ever buy anything from Woot? The prices are the same or less at Amazon and you can easily return items.
Not true.

I buy stuff all the time from woot. You have to be very careful as sometimes as items are cheaper on Amazon. But sometimes it's much, much cheaper on woot. Never had any issues with return to woot

It is removable, but you'll void the warranty as the label with the serial number and such is attatched only to the heatsink

A lot of the recent shirts I've gotten from woot the past year on sales have been junk. Like holes appearing after one wash, ink and designs washing or flaking off after one wash. Ordered like 15+ shirts the past year and they're all basically garbage and woot was no help when I contacted them right after

Not really a great price. PCPartPicker shows this is typically available for $100 or less so the $170 is mostly made up. Maybe SSD prices are about to spike up like ram has done but your guess is as good as mine.

I picked up an Amazon resale 2tb w/o heatsink version of this drive during the prime day sales for a couple bucks cheaper than this.
