The Motorola T110TP is a simple neighborhood and family walkie talkie set that works well for short-range check ins, indoor use, and kid communication. It holds charge well, and rechargeable AAA batteries work fine, though the radios still need a lot of AAA cells. Range is much shorter in real use than the headline figure, with reliable performance around half a mile or less in homes and neighborhoods. There are no privacy settings, so nearby traffic can still share the same channels, making it a practical short range option rather than a private one.
Common Questions (4)
Yes, they are used for neighborhood check-ins, kids roaming nearby, golf carts, youth sports, and cruise-ship communication. They are handy for short-distance coordination, though cruise ships may ban walkie talkies and the range can be poor in dense structures.
No. It uses standard FRS/GMRS channel access and CTCSS-style "pairing," which can keep you from hearing others but does not stop them from hearing you. If you need privacy, these radios do not provide it; using matching codes on both radios only reduces unwanted chatter.
Real-world range is much shorter than the headline 16 miles: about 0.5 miles in a residential setting with obstructions, and up to 3 miles over open water. They can still work well for short neighborhood use, indoors, and around trees and houses within that shorter range.
Yes. Rechargeable AAA batteries from Amazon, Ikea, and Eneloop reportedly work perfectly, and the radios can run for hours over months of use. The main tradeoff is that they still rely on AAA cells, so you need to keep batteries on hand.

They're also terrible range wise due to all the rough infrastructures that these radios struggle to penetrate through.

Or get a GMRS radio, also $35 for 10 years, no exam. Uses the same channels as these FRS radios but more powerful and more programmable.

The Midlands have usb charging so those are the first to be grabbed - but the pack can be swapped with AAA batteries if needed. I'd personally lean towards a no-name well reviewed set with usb recharging over these that require cells.
I also help with youth sports associations, and these are super handy for workers....but I'd recommend splurging on a set with a charging dock if you plan to use regularly.
