KEF's Q Concerto Meta is a large 3 way bookshelf speaker that stands out for bass depth, dynamic punch, and a broad soundstage, especially in larger rooms or home theater setups. The $1,000 pair price is called a strong deal and matches recent KEF and retailer pricing. Proper amplification matters, since the speakers are described as demanding 4 ohm loads that can sound warm, dark, or even bright if the setup is off. The main tradeoff is that they are not the most forgiving choice, so pairing and room size matter. A solid option when you want KEF scale without moving to towers.
The Q Concerto Meta can be a strong value deal in the $1,000 class when discounted from the higher street price.
The Q Concerto Meta can deliver greater bass depth and dynamic capability for larger rooms when paired with the right amplification.
The speakers can sound much better when they are powered properly with sufficient amplifier stability and overhead.
The speakers can work well for bedroom theater setups and can pair effectively with home theater amplification.
The Q Concerto Meta can be very demanding on amplification, and an AVR rated around 60W per channel may not provide enough power or stability.
The Q Concerto Meta can sound treble-light in a large room, which may not suit listeners who want more top-end energy.
The Q Concerto Meta can sound muffled and dark during auditioning, which can lead to disappointment.
The Q Concerto Meta can be perceived as too bright by some listeners, and that can result in returns.

And no, it's not necessarily for rich people. There are FAR more expensive speakers for them, well into the tens, and in extreme examples, hundreds of thousands. This tier is for normal people who care about music and prioritize sound quality.

However, it appears KEF may have spent some more time on the meta generation in terms of tuning. The 6.5" Q3 meta has very slightly better frequency bass frequency response (49 hz) than the 5-1/4" Q1 meta - (51 hz). 2 hz lower bass is hardly anything anyone would notice, or that would remotely justify going from the $400 Q1 meta to the $900 Q3 meta. You would get substantially better sound by spending that money on a musical sub with the smaller speakers. Speakers and audio electronics all major diminishing returns once you get past the basic stuff. You might pay 100% more for 2% better. To each their own.
A $1,000 set of passive speakers can resell used for $800, 3 years later. Then add some inflation into that, and the person buying it used for $800, uses it for 2 more years, and since the new models are now selling for $1400 instead of $1000, used price goes up to $850 or $900.
For savy consumers who understand the audio market, and who are comfortable buying and selling, it is a very affordable hobby.
This was their Black Friday price last year. I wonder if there's any chance they'll dip below this for this year's Black Friday?
Been eyeing a pair of stand-mount R3 Metas in Indigo Blue... Fingers-crossed for Black Friday!
