This Ridgid mid torque impact wrench kit stands out as a strong lug nut and general wheel service tool with a good strength to weight balance. It has enough punch to remove stubborn fasteners, and the four mode control plus auto stop make it versatile for tightening and removal. The pin detent anvil suits lug nut work and overhead use, though socket changes are slower than with a friction ring. The ramp up feels slower than an air impact at first, and the bundled battery value matters if you do not need the extra pack.
Common Questions (4)
Yes. It is used as a go-to tool for lug nuts, and it can remove 180 lb castle nuts in reverse. Auto mode stops around 20-30 ft-lbs, while mode 2 can over-tighten 120 ft-lb fasteners, with even more output from higher-performance batteries.
Pin detent locks the socket on more securely and is better when working overhead or where a socket falling could be dangerous. Friction ring allows faster hand removal and easier socket changes, but the socket can come off too easily for some users.
Yes. The bundle pricing suggests the battery/charger portion can be returned and the tool kept for about $80 if you do not need the extras. The included 4.0 Ah battery is still a good value if you want a spare or plan to use the wrench regularly.
Yes. It is described as a strong value at $109, with some noting a military price of $98 and about $17 more for the protective boot. The lifetime warranty after registration adds extra value.

The power ramp-up takes a little getting used to, but for a standalone package, I highly recommend.
Which is better: pin detent (this one) or friction ring (the one I linked)?

At this price I wouldn't hesitate to buy again if I had didn't already have one. I also have the high torque model but haven't needed to use it yet as this mid torque has gotten the job done.
The lifetime warranty for the Ridgid tools and batteries if you register them is a great added bonus, although I've never needed to use that warranty in the years I've owned Ridgid tools.
