Bissell's Steam Shot is a compact handheld steamer that shines on small cleaning jobs, especially grease, grime, grout, bathroom sinks, mirrors, and even stubborn plastic film. It can work without chemicals and the low price makes it feel like a strong value. The tank is small, so longer jobs take time, and the unit is less convenient without the hose, which is not included. Some comments also flag heat, buildup, and recall concerns, so checking the model and recall status matters.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can work very well on small jobs like bathroom sinks, mirrors, grout, grills, and built-up grease when paired with a cleaner like Dawn spray. The small tank means you may need to refill often, and it is less effective on very stubborn stovetop stains.

  • No hose is included, and the garment/fabric steamer attachment is also not included. The unit is still usable for small jobs, but it is much less convenient without the hose and some listing photos show attachments that are not part of the package.

  • Model 4155 in this deal is not included in the recalled Steam Shot models listed in the BISSELL safety recall. The original Steam Shot models were recalled, so it is worth checking the model number before assuming any unit is affected.

  • The recall process can be very simple: BISSELL may ask for a photo of the unit with the power cord cut and the model number visible, and no accessories need to be returned. Replacement units have reportedly arrived within about 2 days after filing the claim.

  • Distilled water is strongly recommended because hard tap water can clog the nozzle sooner and shorten the cleaner's life. Some users still run tap water successfully, but that can increase the risk of buildup and eventual cleaning or replacement.

This is probably not big enough to clean engine bay, or is it?

Just using mine for the first time. The outside and the attachments all look new. But the inside of the cap and the inside of the tank itself are full of disgusting buildup. I wonder if they'd exchange.

Does the heat feature work until all of the water is used? I purchased a generic model which the heat shuts off after the water level reaches midway point.

No, they absolutely have not. The other thread will clarify this.

The original model of these was recalled, but not this updated model.
You sure about that? This is the 1st Gen model. What comes before Gen 1?

Had one for like 2 years didn't use it for a while then found out there was a recall. I did the claim process and 2 days later the new replacement was already at my door.

yes it's strongly recommended. i don't know if it's necessarily needed but the hard water will probably clog the nozzle soon.
Does using filtered/Brita water help at all?

If you buy this and get a recalled product just submit the claim with Bissell and they'll send you a brand new one right away. Then it will look like you paid $12 for a new one.

Recall info and form are located here: https://support.bissell.com/app/s...ety-recall
Process appears very straightforward.

The model number for the item (4155) in this deal is not included in the recall.

Even still, you are likely to burn yourself at least once over the lifetime of use in a rush to either refill the reservoir and continue cleaning or to finish up by dumping out the excess water and air dry it before storage. Stupid humans gonna stupid. Attempting to relieve the pressure with the trigger doesn't fix the problem so I suggest storing this with an oven mitt and you'll be ahead of the game.

Ugh, got this for $15! I want my $3!

In all seriousness this was in good condition and great for use in getting stains out and getting built up gunk out without using chemicals
Aww man, came here to say this!!!

Great unit for $15. I think at $15 well worth it, $12 is no brainer...

I'm glad I got to try it... While it's good for SOME tasks, it's definitely not good at getting stains off of stovetop and really stuck in stains. (Unfortunately, for me... Chemicals is the only way)

I got one last deal @ $15 and it's basically a fog machine.
Puts out "steam" that isn't hot at all. Wonder if I got a bad unit?

It comes with a pour spout that is 6.5 oz (top line) but the instructions say to not fill it with more than 10 oz. Seems strange that they didn't make this 5 oz. So it made me wonder if 6.5oz is really the max on this model. Anyone know? (I know I can chat but just didn't get around to it and the last time I chatted with Bissell they said they'd email me when they found the answer. To their credit, it only took a couple days and I believe the info provided was correct.)
Just saw the one with the hose at Marshals for $40. I'm happy with the $15 one I got on the last deal.

Yes. About two years ago. I'm guessing the refurbishment process did not address this.
