Bissell's Steam Shot is a compact handheld steamer that shines on small cleaning jobs, especially grease, grime, grout, bathroom sinks, mirrors, and even stubborn plastic film. It can work without chemicals and the low price makes it feel like a strong value. The tank is small, so longer jobs take time, and the unit is less convenient without the hose, which is not included. Some comments also flag heat, buildup, and recall concerns, so checking the model and recall status matters.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can work very well on small jobs like bathroom sinks, mirrors, grout, grills, and built-up grease when paired with a cleaner like Dawn spray. The small tank means you may need to refill often, and it is less effective on very stubborn stovetop stains.

  • No hose is included, and the garment/fabric steamer attachment is also not included. The unit is still usable for small jobs, but it is much less convenient without the hose and some listing photos show attachments that are not part of the package.

  • Model 4155 in this deal is not included in the recalled Steam Shot models listed in the BISSELL safety recall. The original Steam Shot models were recalled, so it is worth checking the model number before assuming any unit is affected.

  • The recall process can be very simple: BISSELL may ask for a photo of the unit with the power cord cut and the model number visible, and no accessories need to be returned. Replacement units have reportedly arrived within about 2 days after filing the claim.

  • Distilled water is strongly recommended because hard tap water can clog the nozzle sooner and shorten the cleaner's life. Some users still run tap water successfully, but that can increase the risk of buildup and eventual cleaning or replacement.

does this need distilled water? my water is hard off the faucet.
It depends entirely on the quality of your tap water. In most of the Pacific Northwest, you're probably fine. In Southern California, you're chancing things.

Using a traditional water filter would likely prolong the cleaner's life.

And to be clear - I've gotten plenty of life out of mine just running tap water. The cost of distilled water would negate the cost benefits. But I realize I run the risk of it clogging up and needing to be cleaned or replaced.

You should get a steam cleaner, it would probably clear up the clogging issue in your steam cleaner!

Does using filtered/Brita water help at all?
Brita doesn't completely eliminate solid substances. I use zero water for better filtrations.

Somewhat deceptive that Bissel includes pictures of using the steam cleaner with attachments that aren't even included...

Ordered. Will think later where it will be used. I'm sure there would be plenty of applications.

However, suggestions are welcomed!

My recall process was taking a picture of the unit, with the power cord cut, model number visible. You don't have to turn in anything, just photo proof that you destroyed it
