Walmart + membership normally $98. Mine just renewed. In the account details I chose to cancel, and was offered $50 in Walmart cash to keep the membership.

Walmart+ is being used for free shipping, grocery delivery, gas savings, and streaming perks like Paramount+ or Peacock, with Scan and Go and occasional early access adding value for some households. The strongest savings come from stacking renewal promos, Walmart Cash, and Amex offers, which can cut the effective cost to about $49 or even make a year nearly free. The main catch is that the renewal flow often shows $49 while the actual auto renewal is $98, and cancellation sometimes only leads to a refund or a later offer. Free delivery also has minimums on groceries, and Scan and Go can be inconvenient in crowded stores.
Members who want streaming perks, because the subscription includes Paramount+ or Peacock.
The Amex deal is structured as paying the full $98 Walmart+ renewal price and receiving about $49 back as a statement credit or Walmart Cash, making the effective cost $49. It is not a checkout charge of $49.
Yes, some cancellation flows surface a $50 Walmart Cash retention offer or a 50% off renewal offer. It may appear immediately during cancellation, later in checkout, or after removing payment methods, and it can be tied to the next renewal date.
The promo year renews at the regular $98 annual rate unless you cancel before renewal. Several accounts showed a $49-looking renewal screen, but the actual charge at renewal was $98 plus tax.
Grocery delivery still has a minimum order threshold, commonly $25 or $35, to qualify for free delivery. Non-grocery merchandise marked as shipping can ship free to home regardless of price, even very small items.
Walmart+ includes Paramount+ or Peacock as a member benefit, along with perks like fuel savings and occasional early access. Some members value the streaming benefit enough to justify the annual fee.
our showed a renewal date and $49. I assumed it was because we only paid $49 last year. I went into the account details and it showed when the sub would renew, and the renewal price of $98.
I chose to cancel the sub, I was not offered a reduced rate or the walmart cash promo. We now have not sub and waiting for a deal to come along.
Same exact thing happened here, no promo or anything yet
Be warned, I had a $49 deal on my account and they charged me the full $98
Same here just this week. Had screen shot of $49 renewal price but did not matter. No help from customer service so I had them cancel it completely. They refunded the $98 immediately.
what was the exact deal? was it to get $49 walmart cash? That doesn't mean you pay $49, you pay $98 and you get $49 in Walmart cash to use.
Walmart DOES NOT just charge people $98 for a $49 membership promo, it would show at checkout how much your CC is being charged. I have the feeling you misunderstood what you were buying.
For current subscribers that paid $49 last year this is what shows on their account. They just assume that it will renew at $49. But if you chick "manage" on the right it will show you full details of your sub including the renewal date and the renewal rate of $98.
I did this and knew it would renew for full price. I chose to cancel and was not offered a new promo.

yeah, so was this an auto-renew feature or people manually renewing?
If auto renew, I'm sure the $98 price was shown as part of the terms when you signed up what the cost would be when the first year promo was up. If manual, usually you'd be taken to some kind of checkout screen that shows the amount being put on your credit card.
Of course w/auto renew situations, always best to remove the feature soon after you pay for the promo year.

Exactly this. It's all in the fine print from when you originally signed up. Yes, it does not look very professional but come on people.

No, it was clearly spelled out when you joined last year at $49. It is always important to read the fine print when signing up for a heavily discounted promo order. Because you didn't take the time doesn't mean it is misleading.
Virtually every deal like this comes with auto-renewal at FULL PRICE, and it is up to you to remove the feature long before the renewal date.

Mine expires/renews next month, but didn't get any offers when I cancelled it. Figure I'll have for BF and then can live without it. I end up ordering stuff I didn't really need in the first place or adding stuff to get to their $35 to not pay a small order fee...

Walmart+ renewal offers can include Walmart Cash credits that reduce the effective membership cost when the credit is applied.
Walmart+ can include Paramount+ or Peacock benefits, which can add entertainment value alongside shipping perks.
Walmart+ can provide free home shipping for merchandise categories like clothes, HBA, office, and electronics regardless of price.
Walmart+ Scan & Go can reduce checkout waiting by letting shoppers verify item prices while picking up orders.
Walmart+ renewal screens can show a $49 price while the actual renewal charge is $98, creating a mismatch at renewal time.
Cancellation flows may fail to show any discounted renewal offer, leaving the account to renew at the full $98 rate.
Free delivery for grocery orders can require a $25 or $35 minimum, so small grocery baskets may not qualify.
Scan & Go can be inconvenient when lanes are blocked or crowded, making regular registers with Walmart Pay easier to use.
