Isn't it a bad idea to use steam on hardwood regardless of what the manufacturer say about their product being hardwood-safe?

I'd love to be wrong here since I have a ninja steam mop, but I've been hesitant to use it b/c all the hardwood flooring folks told me to not use steam on hardwood...

How does this compare to those cheap swiffer mops?

You're not wrong. Also vinyl plank and laminate are out because steam will destroy those over time as well. Basically the only safe flooring for a steam mop is tile. The companies that make these things do not care, they just want to sell you yet another cleaning appliance.

Does anyone have a good cheap solution to use in these things besides the $12 shark liquid? Also, if you want to stop buying $1 disposable pads you can get a set of washable pads and washable vac filter off Amazon. This thing recvd 28K 4.x stars so it's gotta be useful! I'm paying the extra for the blue light version that is supposed to highlight dust/dirt easier.

I did use my steam mop on my hardwood a few times before I was told it was a bad idea and fwiw it didn't do anything, but it could be one of those things that takes more than a few tries to do damage.

I bought a manual swiffer that comes with a hardwood floor spray to clean my hardwood now. hopefully that's safe... definitely a workout to clean the house lol

You should be good as long as you don't continue. I have seen cases where certain finishes get stripped off flooring after just one use.

I've used Swiffer for my hardwood floor for years and periodically I use one cup of vinegar to a gallon of warm water with a spin mop where it's very well rung out so barely damp to run over the hardwood. No damage after 15+ years.

Well this one has a vac to pickup debris before the mop part hits it so that's a cool feature! Oh, and don't forget the headlights to highlight the debris.

Sal Suds, depending on how dirty the floor is, I would use between 1.25 and 7.5 mL per 500 mL of water.

Any cleaning device that requires single use disposable pads and requires purchasing more in perpetuity is a big thumbs down. Use a standalone vacuum and an O-Cedar ProMist mop with washable mop pads for better sustainability.

Be careful if you have carpet like I do, this vacuum is only for hard floors.

I was thinking more so for tile. For kitchen floor cleaning.
