ty, i didnt know about hdd. Yet... it was at $250 quite a few times, what's another 2 weeks wait? I just gont think it's hot enough to jump.

Also, I live in CO, and buying from newegg means 8-9% sales tax, while buying from seagate store is less, ~3% iirc.

So whats happening is these companies have production lines and limited space and because the demand for SSD's for data centers are where the money's at these companies retool the production lines for those SSDs instead of HDD's and the lack of production with a steady rate of demand makes the price go up on HDD's

Worst drive I ever bought were baraccuda computes. Failure rate was WAY higher than WD reds for me. My Reds havent died in years. One was DOA though. But these segates can die in a year under normal use. Don't put anything you care on a single source of failure, anyway. Always have a backup.

It depends on the amount of drives in your NAS and what array they are using. Single drive? No problem. 4 drive RAID5 or RAID6? No, unfortunately. NAS-specific drives, like the Seagate IronWolf Pro and WD Red Pro, have rotational vibration sensors that help the drive compensate for vibrations in multi-drive setups, improving performance and reliability. It's likely that a drive like this might last years in a multi-drive setup, but it's not really what it was designed for and comes at a higher risk of failure.
