Valvoline R&P is API certified, and in order to be certified, it has to pass compatibility testing for gaskets and seals, so it is good for long term use.
Also, it does not have a high detergent level that dries out gaskets/seals. It has a specific patented molecule for removing carbon. It's not Dexos certified because it is rumored that GM (the creators of the specification) requires the formulation be disclosed. Valvoline said no and has kept it secret for now. A lot of R&D went into developing this oil, a lot. So I don't blame Valvoline. Also oil has come a long way since the whole Dexos thing 15 or so years ago anyways.
The people who all of a sudden claim to have engine gasket/seal leaks after using this oil, must have already had compromised gaskets and seals beforehand. And the removal of the deposits exposed their existing problem.
The restore and protect variant is a different beast. I thought it was marketing BS until I saw multiple videos of this stuff from completely random nobody's removing baked on carbon and cleaning pistons.
After it resolved my chain rattle, I started putting it in all my older cars.
I would be fine running Supertech (I do actually) and it's good oil, but Restore and Protect, by all accounts, is excellent. I'm not personally aware of anything else that actually removes varnish and deposits, so it might be worth the premium, particularly if you have an older vehicle that needs some love.
This price is okay. Walmart typically has 5qt jugs for $30, and you can get equal or better filters for about the same price. The real deal is the $15 gift card, if you're willing to do the rebate.
Valvoline Restore and Protect stands out as a full synthetic oil aimed at cleaning varnish, sludge, and carbon while quieting engines and reducing oil consumption. The strongest praise centers on older, high mileage engines, including cold start rattle, chain slap, and deposit related issues, with some reports of noticeably cleaner internals after a couple of changes. The main caution is that it is not a miracle fix for worn rings or other mechanical problems, and a few reports raise seal or leak concerns. The rebate and gift card make the bundle more appealing, though the included Wix filter can be overpriced and the rebate rules deserve a careful read.
drivers of high-mileage cars with deposit/varnish issues because multiple commenters say it removes varnish and deposits after only a couple oil changes (including a 194K-mile Saturn that was "purring after only 2K").
owners of GDI engines (like Kia/Hyundai) who want help with carbon buildup because commenters specifically plan to use Restore & Protect in their Kia/Hyundai GDI cars since those engines are prone to carbon buildup.
DIYers who want to maximize the rebate value because commenters say the "real deal" is the $15 gift card if you're willing to do the rebate, and they share that buying multiple quarts/filters in the right way still makes the math work.
older-car owners dealing with cold-start rattle because Valvoline Restore and Protect "totally stopped" the dreaded cold-start rattle in an older Toyota Corolla.
people who are willing to do shorter early oil-change intervals (around 2,000-3,000 miles) when they're trying to clean things out because one commenter recommends changing the oil and filter after 2,000-3,000 miles on first use, especially if you have high mileage and deposit issues.
drivers who are worried about seal compatibility after oil changes because one commenter warns this oil can stiffen/dry out seals and says they'll pass on using it if that's the case.
people who already have a car that started leaking after using this oil (or who are relying on anecdotal leak reports) because at least one commenter says their 2009 Lexus started leaking after using it twice, and others question whether the leak was verified by a mechanic.
owners who believe their engine is already staying clean with regular 5k synthetic changes because one commenter says if previous oil changes were done every 5k with synthetic, this oil is probably not needed.
buyers expecting the rebate to be straightforward if they're trying to submit multiple uploads of the same receipt because the terms explicitly say "Multiple uploads of the same receipt per rebate offer is not allowed."
people who want to remove direct-injection valve carbon without doing walnut blasting because one commenter says intake-manifold removal and walnut media blasting are the only thing that removes that kind of carbon buildup and doesn't see how this oil would help.
It is used for cleaning varnish, sludge, and carbon deposits, and can reduce oil consumption when the issue is deposit-related. Reports include quieter running, less chain rattle, and cleaner internals after a few oil changes, but it will not fix mechanical problems like worn rings or damaged bores.
It is API certified and is formulated for gasket and seal compatibility, so it is intended for long-term use. Leak reports are often tied to pre-existing compromised seals that become visible after deposits are removed, though some users still worry about that risk.
The rebate terms allow up to 2 submissions, and the form does not mention separate transactions. The terms also say multiple uploads of the same receipt are not allowed, so separate pickup orders with unique receipts are the safest way to submit two rebates.
A common approach is to change the oil and filter after 2,000-3,000 miles on the first use, especially on high-mileage engines with deposits. After that, 3,000-5,000 miles is suggested for the next few changes before returning to a normal interval.
The filter is only covered up to $14.99, and anything above that requires paying the difference. That matters because some Wix filters run higher than the cap, so the rebate value depends on the exact filter price.
Great product and price. My very old Toyota Corolla with low miles was starting to get that dreaded cold start rattle and this oil has totally stopped it.

Walmart Super Tech Full syn is $19 ish. Filters are $3-8 depending on brand. Don't need to deal with rebate. Multiple Oil test shows oil is great.

Walmart (Warren) oil and Valvoline R&P aren't even in the same league let alone sport. For the typical oil change, Walmart is fine. For those that want to truly clean their motor from the inside, only Valvoline R&P can do that, and it's proven by multiple sources online.
That all said, wish this deal was for up to 6 quarts, not everyone has the 2.0L turbo 4-bangers almost every manufacturer makes these days, lol! The rebate will pay for the extra quart I need I suppose.

Anybody know if you can purchase 2 jugs of oil and 2 filters on the same receipt?
Please refer to the PDF link if you can for sure. Typically if the limit is 2, you can unless it says "limit 1 rebate per transaction". To play it safe, you can do sep. online pick up orders with unique receipts for each.

Thanks for the reply, read through the pdf and dont see any language about separate transactions which is good. Unless I missed something it doesnt even mention the limit of 2 on the form itself.
