Lenovo's Idea Tab Plus stands out as a large 12.1 inch Android tablet for notes, office work, and streaming, with a sharp 2.5K display, 8GB of RAM, a 10200mAh battery, and 45W charging. The size feels portable enough for a bag, and the pen support makes handwriting and text conversion useful, though the pen is not included in the Best Buy version. The main drawbacks are the modest processor and weak graphics for modern 3D games, plus face unlock only and limited accessory options. Security updates are expected through 2029, making it a practical midrange pick for everyday use.

  • The tablet supports the Lenovo Tab Pen even when the pen is not included in the box.

  • Security update expectations for the 2025 model are stated as running until 2029, which is better than older Lenovo tablets.

  • The tablet is positioned for note taking and office work with a portable 12.1-inch form factor.

  • The display and battery setup can be stronger than the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ comparison, including 90Hz and faster 45W charging.

  • The GPU can struggle with modern 3D games, causing FPS drops in titles like Z Survivor and Fortnite.

  • The tablet's biometric support is limited to a face scanner, which may not work for banking apps that usually rely on fingerprint or face ID.

  • The touchscreen can reportedly barely work, which led to a return.

  • Accessory compatibility can be limited because the 2025 version uses different dimensions than earlier models.

get this or spend $90 more and get a tab pro?
The Pro does have fingerprint scanner and works with banking apps.

Also has much faster CPU and GPU, so no issues with 3D games I mentioned. Literally triple the AnTuTu score. And 144 Hz display refresh.

Also has 12.7" screen so little bigger.

However Pro has WORSE brightness at 400nits.

If you buy from Lenovo, use EXTRAFIVE for 5% discount on top of their current BF pricing.

I don't know of any android tablet that automatically uses as cards as internal storage. Certainly nothing recent. There are software tools to do this, but they can be cumbersome to use
Why would anyone want to make their SD card act as a hard drive to store the OS on? That would make your tablet like... at least 10 times slower if not more slow then that.

Is this still getting security updates?

Lenovo products are typically horrible at that
Security updates? Please let me know of one article, JUST ONE PERSON who got hacked because his phone or tablet was not up to date... JUST ONE STORY that is documented.

There are well over A BILLION tablets/phones that no longer get updates... AGAIN, PLEASE TELL ME ONE PERSON ONE STORY OF ANYONE THAT GOT HACKED DUE TO NOT HAVING A UPDATED OS.

If it's getting security updates until 2029 that's great actually compared to other Lenovo products. The last Lenovo tablet I got (the M9) was shit a shitshow
Do you understand how slow this tablet is...

And with Android 17 running in the future... do you know how slow this tablet will become....

Think of this tablet like the M9 when it was first released... but know you know the shitshow it really is cause you lived it. This tablet will be similar.

The M9 was fine when it came out
Then when Android 13 was put on it, it became complete and utter shit.

That is exactly what I am talking ab out...

I have been stating for about 1.5 yeas now... that the SLOWEST CPU you should buy for Android is either a SD695 or a G99... the one in this Lenovo is 5% slower. But all other other specs are decent, so this may actually last but the CPU is really really really slow as a CPU to buy in 2025.

My favorite tablet to buy if you care about updates... it the pixel tablet. But really... this one is up there due to the price point and the screen is pretty decent.

Are you failing to understand how computers work? First off, you don't put the OS on the SD card. You put applications on it. Applications load into memory from the storage and run out of there. By default, Android tablets don't usually let you do this for some reason. Phones sometimes do. Just format the card as "internal storage" usually and it works like that in a lot of phones. I have this done on my phone currently. Zero difference in performance for apps stored on the SD card or the actual internal storage. Also, a lot of the SD cards out there are actually faster than the internal storage some of these cheap tablets and phones have in the first place. Your comment shows how completely unaware of how these things work.

Did you read my first comment... it would be deadly slow.

This is already a SLOW TABLET... and you want to make it like 10 times more slow by installing apps on SD cards?

Are failing to understand how computers work? Applications LOAD INTO MEMORY FROM SD CARD... do you know how much slower that is then loading into memory from hard drive?

It is like, NO NO NO, this tablet is not slow enough, we need to find a way to make it slower.

Android's built-in support for moving apps to SD cards was removed in Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), with manufacturers like Sony removing the feature in later devices as well. Google stopped supporting it due to security and privacy concerns, as apps on external storage could be less reliable and perform slower than those on internal storage. While the feature was removed from the core Android OS, some manufacturers have kept similar functionality on their own devices.

So you know why it was stopped like 10 years ago... cause it made your tablet WAY WAY WAY TOO SLOW.

But there are still some manufacturers that still allow it... Motorola, Nokia, Xiaomi, Fairphone are some of the brands that do support the adoptable storage option and some Lenovo tablets. But I would NEVER recommend this.

To me a SD card is where you can store movies and with streaming out there who does that?

Samsung A9+ does not support a pen or stylus, which I really like to use. Cheapest Samsung tablet that I would buy is the Galaxy Tab S10 Lite, which Amazon currently sells for $320.
I was gonna ask the same thing.

You are comparing "Why is Lenovo Idea Tab Pro better than Galaxy Tab A9 Plus?" This Slickdeal is for the Lenovo Idea Tab Plus, which is cheaper and smaller than the Idea Tab Pro.

This or the Samsung A9+

Screen:
12.1" 2.5K (2560 x 1600), IPS, Multi-Touch, 800 nits (Peak)/600 nits (Typical), 90Hz. This can not compare to Samsung's screen... it is SO MUCH BETTER.

Samsung's A9+ display... Display Type: TFT LCD
Screen Size: 11 inches
Resolution: 1920 x 1200 pixels (WUXGA)
Refresh Rate: 90 Hz
Maximum Brightness: Typically listed as 480 nits or 500 nits

CPU:
MediaTek Dimensity 6400 Processor (2.50 GHz) VS SD695.

The SD695 is about 5% faster.

8GB RAM SAME as A9+

128 GB UFS 2.2 Storage IDENTICAL storage tecnology... UFS 2.2.

Up to 1TB expandable storage via microSD... I think the same.
13MP Rear Camera, 5MP Front Camera... who cares...
Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) + Bluetooth 5.2... OK...
10200mAh Battery, Supports 45W Quick Charge BIGGER BATTER with FASTER CHARGING.

Samsung A9+ has 7040 mAH battery and only 15W quick charge.

Android 15 (less bloat on Lenovo)

BASICALLY... they are almost the same in power but the Lenovo has a MUCH BETTER SCREEN and a MUCH BIGGER BATTERY and 45Watts charging vs 15Watt charging and a lot less bloatware.

But what really to consider is the case. I like droop proof cases and don't know what is available with the Lenovo tablet.

How are Lenovo tablets for note-taking?
I need something smaller or with a different form factor than a 13" iPad Pro. I am leaning towards e-ink, but size (9-11 in) and price point (under 300$), Lenovo and Samsung fit.
