There are three ongoing promotions this model psu is eligible for:
First, a $20 steam code for registering your psu, providing proof of purchase, posting a review on the retailer you purchased it from, and linking the review: https://us.msi.com/Landing/join-s...ut-for-msi
Second, a $10 steam code for registering your psu and providing proof of purchase: https://us.msi.com/Promotion/empo...st?link=
Third, since this psu comes with two pcie 12vhpwr (16-pin) connectors and only a single pcie 8pin (6+2) connector, msi currently has a promotion for a free pcie 16-pin to dual 8-pin Adapter Cable for registering your psu and providing proof of purchase: https://us.msi.com/Promotion/full...your-build
Please read the terms and conditions of all promotions carefully. While the terms for each individual promotion state "Participants may register and make up to a maximum of one (1) redemption per eligible product line purchased", I see no mention of not being able to qualify for multiple different promotions with the same product. In the MSI Shout Out Promo reddit thread, a member of the msi usa marketing team said that the previous new era promo stacked with the shout promotion as long as the product was eligible for both, lending further credence to the idea that you can participate in multiple promotions with the same product. That being said, I obviously have no way of verifying for sure that you can stack all three promotions this psu is eligible for, so ymmv.
This psu is A-tier on spl's tier list: https://docs.google.com/spreadshe...RB6

If this psu goes out of stock on amazon (or you just prefer newegg for some reason, such as for the "black friday price protection"), it's on sale at the same price of $110 on newegg currently: https://www.newegg.com/msi-atx12v...681770

MSI's MPG A1000GS is a well regarded 1000 watt, PCIe 5 ready power supply that stands out for strong real world headroom and a solid tier ranking. It has been run with high end builds like an RTX 4090 and even a founders RTX 5090 without issues, and the current price looks especially good versus earlier pricing. The deal may get better if the MSI Steam and adapter promotions stack, though the promo terms are limited and require registration and proof of purchase. Connector compatibility is the main watchout, since the newer 12V 2x6 and 12VHPWR style plugs reduce older PCIe and CPU outputs, so it fits best when you actually need a 1000 watt unit.
The power supply is rated A-tier on the SPL tier list and is supported by external PSU reviews linked in the discussion.
The MSI MPG A1000GS can qualify for multiple MSI promotions, including a Steam code and a free PCIe 16-pin to dual 8-pin adapter cable, if the terms allow stacking.
The 1000G variant has been reported as a strong match for a 12700K and 4090, indicating solid real-world performance for high-end builds.
The PSU has been reported to run a founders RTX 5090 without issues, which supports confidence for demanding GPU setups.
The deal can feel less attractive when the item is sold by Newegg through Amazon, because Newegg's perceived decline and Amazon one-star ratings are cited as a reason to pass.
The MSI/Steam promotion may limit redemption to one Steam gift card per product category, which can reduce the benefit when buying multiple units.
The included 12x6 (12vhpwr-style) connector approach can create compatibility problems for pre-2022 GPUs and some motherboard/GPU combinations due to fewer PCIe/CPU plug options.
Buying through Amazon can carry risk of receiving customer returns or missing parts after the return window, which can undermine confidence in a "new" listing.

Also note that with this MSI/Steam promotion, it's one per product category, for example, if you buy 2 PSU's, you're not getting 2 Steam gift cards, only 1.
As it stands, this power supply looks like it can't handle my b850m mortar and a pre-2022 video card on account of not enough PCIE/CPU ports.

This was the most recommended PSU. MSI bought out the EVGA team making the good PSUs they had.
Years ago I bought all my PC parts from Newegg. They had the best prices, great selection, and excellent customer service. Lately they have gone downhill, and I avoid purchasing from them.
On Amazon Newegg has 24% one-star ratings!! Obviously many have problems. Sadly, I think I will pass on this deal

And from my experience Newegg has gone downhill. In fact, on Amazon, Newegg has 24% one-star ratings!! You are right that Amazon shipped stuff can be all over the place but I would much rather deal with Amazon's customer service -- they are very flexible and have no problem accepting returns.
