This Toshiba 75 inch M550 is a budget QLED Fire TV that stands out for full array local dimming, a built in subwoofer, and solid gaming support at 1440p and 120Hz with VRR on Xbox and PlayStation. The panel is still a true 60Hz display, so 120Hz only works in limited gaming modes and not at 4K. Fire TV software is also described as slow, making an external streamer a better fit. A useful pick if you want strong picture features without paying for a higher tier set.

Common Questions (5)

  • A 5-year extended warranty is commonly treated as worthwhile on these budget TVs, and one estimate puts Best Buy's plan at about $79. It adds peace of mind if you're worried about panel or display failures after the first year.

  • No. It is a 60Hz panel, and the advertised 120Hz is smoothing/marketing rather than native 120Hz input support. It cannot display 120Hz input, and 24fps content still uses 3:2 pulldown.

  • No. The HDMI 2.0 ports are limited to 4K60, but VRR and 1440p at 120Hz can work on PS5 and Xbox Series X. On Xbox, 4K has to be disabled or it will fall back to 4K60.

  • Yes. It has full-array local dimming with about 48 zones, which helps contrast but can show some blooming in test patterns. It also includes a built-in subwoofer.

  • Yes. The onboard Fire TV software is reported to be very slow, so using an external streamer through HDMI is the better option for smoother app performance.

Which is better

- This for $400, or the
- Hisense 75" H5 for $378 (https://slickdeals.net/f/18804634-w-live-at-7pm-et-hisense-75-class-h5-series-qled-4k-uhd-roku-smart-tv-75h5qbr-2025-model-378)
I purchased the Hisense, but the Toshiba is better, local dimming, more ports, higher brightness.

The Best Buy 5-year warranty costs $79 vs. $33 at Walmart, since I think the warranty is a must with these cheap BF TVs, the price difference is more like $68 instead of $22.

I got it in last weekend, Xbox and PS5 allow for enabling VRR and 1440p @120. On Xbox you have to actively disable 4K as it will just switch back to 4k 60 otherwise. Once it's setup that way it's definitely smooth like you'd expect from 120.
Local dimming works great, you can tell it's only 48 zones as it blooms a bit when you play test videos but that's not noticeable with normal content.
FireTV software on this TV is very slow, be sure to use one of the HDMI ports for a proper googletv/onn4k/appletv/firestick. I don't recommend using the onboard FireTV software.

Trying to decide the same exact thing.

The guy at Walmart told me there were some 75" QLED Vizios in the back for $328 that were coming out for Black Friday.
So, depends on what you consider a deal, but for the lowest price wait and be ready to get up early for door busters.

I'm looking at the same decision. I was waiting for the 75u8n to drop in price again but it didn't. Going to pick up a bedroom tv to use as main until that happens.
How decent is the Toshiba if I hook an Onn Google TV up to it?

Full array local dimming on the toshiba, and a built-in subwoofer as well. This Toshiba is a Hisense, sitting somewhere between a u6 and u7.

Mine just got delivered. I got the last one in Arizona
