Bose is flat-out bad when it comes to earbuds. You pay all that money just for them to break within the first year. You get a replacement pair via warranty but those break within the first year, too.
ive had those for a year and its really not worth its price, even on sale. the only good thing i can say about it is their ANC is pretty good, but the sound quality is really not there, the microphone was described as "you sound like you are being drowned at the bottom of a well" and i would constantly get random quiet but noticeable noises in them that ive never had in any other earbuds. ive even had them replaced, thinking that no way that a (at the time) $300 buds from a reputable manufacturer would be SO BAD, but no, the replacement pair was just as bad. Save your money, they are really, really, really not worth it.

You haven't had these for a year. This is the second Gen that just came out recently. I had the first Gen and they sucked - this second Gen is markedly better. The noise cancelling is amazing. That said, bose earbuds are prone to breaking - I did buy an extended warranty after my experience with the gen 1s.
So I've been testing the Sony xm5s via the ebay refurb deal for $107. Sound quality is comparable, Sony's app is better than Bose, Bose has better ANC (not by a mile but enough to notice it being better), Bose is more comfortable and has a better fit, Sony has LDAC, Bose has aptx lossless (but no aptx standard which is a huge miss imo). I'd say overall the Bose are better but not $100 better in my opinion considering the Sony's are basically brand new in the ebay refurb deal. I plan on returning my Bose, I think $100ish is the sweet spot for these types of earbuds that will inevitably break. Anything much over $100 makes me nervous taking them outside and traveling with them anyway, would rather have something cheaper unless they come out with completely waterproof versions (xm6?).
They are a bit different. The strength of the Bose is the noise cancelling. It's the best of any earbud I've used including the Sony's. They are my go to for things like mowing the lawn where I need a lot of noise cancelling. Also work really well on flights. Bose fixed the call quality on these as it was a real issue with the prior gen one until a recent firmware update. Sound quality is a bit subjective, but many find these bass heavy but this can be tuned in the app. I also find them super comfortable for extended sessions.
The Sony's are really good "all arounders" but I tend to use the Bose more.

I just bought a pair and can't speak to longevity but as someone who concluded recently that in-ear earbuds do not fit me, I was VERY pleasantly surprised to find that these seem to fit and stay in my ears! They've also got the best ANC that I've personally experienced and seem to be top 3 in basically every competitive review they're featured in. I also just purchased (and will be returning) the Technics AZ100 and so far the Bose feel much higher quality/better built. It also doesn't help that I seem to fall in a small but growing group of people that don't like the sound signature of the AZ100.
