This printer is definitely worth it. I have owned and operated 7 different printers over the last 10 years for work and hobby use and by far my favorite printer is the A1 Mini. This printer is it's big brother. I've used the Bambu X1C workflow HEAVILY. Thousands of hours of print time just on those machines for my job. I am extremely familiar with it. Please trust me when I say that this A1 deal is not only an excellent value for getting into multi color printing, it's one of the best user experiences. All maintenance is easier on an open frame printer. Hotend swaps are SOOO MUCH BETTER on the A1 ecosystem than the P1S/X1 ecosystem. The AMS Lite (A1) is extremely reliable compared to the original X1C AMS unit (the original AMS jams more frequently than the lite, hates cardboard spools after a while). For the hobbiest that isn't regularly printing engineering materials for end-use parts this machine is ideal. You can get away with printing some high end materials on this machine if you tent it or use a draft shield. I still do that for engineering parts on my A1 Mini.

I have an x1c and I just bought this combo for my son's Christmas present. The A1 is a very good printer and widely used. For less than 800 you could also look at the P1S with ams2 combo from Bambu. It's a core XY printer going for $620

Someone show me a top tier 3d printer for less than $800. is this a good deal? my son has an ankermake but I think he needs a better one to improve his skills. He's getting good at printing but the ankermake only allows a single color at a time. Please show me a kick ass multicolor printer for a nice price. This can't be it?

Just get the P1S combo, ignore the ams 2. Snapmaker U1 might also be worth consideration

P1s + ams2 combo, it's 599 right now and you're not going to do better as an overall ecosystem.

This is the way if you want to drink the Bambu Kool aid. Absolutely killer deal. I have an A1 and do not regret upgrading one bit at that price.

This would be solid. The Flashforge AD5X is also solid for about $120 less. It's got a smaller build area (220x220 vs 250x250) but otherwise the hardware is great.

We have a print farm of over 40 printers and have A1s, p1S, X1C and the H2D. This printer is amazing. Unless your son is really hitting the limits on materials which you can't print safely without ventilation or he prints a lot of very tall models I would get him A1 with AMS lite. If you are thinking about a p2S that would be a nice machine too but honestly if I would rather have two A1s than a P1s being able to print more at once is a huge speed boost to designing and productivity.

Got A1 last year, almost ran it nonstop everyday ever since. Never disappointed me, worth every buck for a life long hobby

I've been printing since 2014 and used the unknown brands, DIY(voron), to the big brands. This printer for this price has zero competition. If your considering getting it for anyone from first time user to someone that is experienced but hasn't used Bambu products this printer is great. I can't say enough how amazing this printer is for this price.

Does Bambu have the A1 with AMS2 combo? I'd rather have the AMS2 with dryer for PETG.

Have you tried the Flashforge 5 family?

I have not. I don't believe they offer a multi color option either so not in the same category IMO.

Personally, at this price and being a bed slinger, I would grab another ad5x off AliExpress. I grabbed one for $254 and a second for $223 when the price drops and using a couple like the AEUS56. Might have to add an item to get that bigger discount if the price before coupon is below like $269 but nozzles, filament, etc will always be needed. Also I do multiple orders to take advantage of max discount per code.
But unless you absolutely can't do a 220 build volume vs 256, ad5x is solid.

I also have two p1s combos.

Ad5x also has a quick change nozzle, prints tpu very well, better than the p1s.
