The DualSense Edge stands out as a premium PS5 controller for players who want back paddles, hair triggers, and easy stick module swaps. The shape feels comfortable and sturdy, and the modular sticks are a real hedge against drift, with replacement modules available when wear shows up. Battery life is the biggest drawback, often described as very short, and the trigger feel does not impress everyone. It is most compelling for shooter play or for anyone who values the extra controls and repairability.

  • The modular analog stick design lets you replace stick modules instead of replacing the whole controller after drift.

  • The controller's hair triggers and back paddles can improve shooter gameplay comfort and control.

  • The back paddles are described as very sturdy for repeated use.

  • A Target RedCard plus a Target 20% one-item coupon can reduce the pre-tax cost to $129.99.

  • Battery life is reported as very short, around three hours or described as pitifully low.

  • The hair-trigger mode and triggers are criticized as not good or not quick enough for some use cases.

  • Some experiences describe stick drift issues that still required repeated repairs, joystick replacements, and controller swaps.

  • Durability concerns include reports of the rubber grip falling apart over time.

I'd only be buying this to combat the incessant stick drift of the stock dualsense. I've went through three controllers so far. I've manually replaced the hall effect disc sensor in one, literally desoldered another full joystick replacement in another, and even bought another controller on sale just to save trouble in future.

I'm tired boss. I'm tired of fixing Sony's bullshit controller problem.
You can repeat this for Xbox and Nintendo in addition to PlayStation. They all seem to love make consumers buy controllers over and over again because of stick drift...

If I may... as someone who has used these for the last 3 years for FPS and ARPG games, I wouldn't worry too much about drift on these. Still using the sticks it came with and no signs of drift at all. Also, you can buy backup battle beaver magneto TMR modular sticks to swap with the standard ones and you'll basically be set for years.

Is this worth it compared to a regular controller?
If you really like haptic feedback, the shape of the dualsense and also need back buttons then yes. It's also higher quality and makes playing feel more premium, but probably not worth the high price just for that. Be warned though its battery life is pitifully low.

Unless you're a pro fps console player, it is not worth it. The advantage is minuscule but might tip the balance in a professional tournament.

It's a modular design with less battery life than the standard controller.

It also has durability issues like the rubber grip falling apart over time.

I've had mine since the anniversary edition last year, and I haven't experienced issues with the rubber grip falling apart, even with daily usage. Will say, having only one pair of back buttons can be a pain when most other similar controllers have two pairs. Battery life is pretty miserable, but I have a charger next to me on the couch anyways.

Overall, would not say its worth it, unless you foresee yourself needing the back button functionalities in particular. However, it could save you money in the long run as well due to having to only replace the sticks vs replacing the entire controller when wear inevitably hits the sticks.

my favourite part of the controller is being able to replace the joysticks. i tend to drop my controller frequently and its nice not having to worry so much about drift (which ps5 controllers love). i keep a spare stick on hand. also, the weight. it is very comfortable and the paddles come in handy.

Why is this controller so expensive? Is it an upgrade over the controllers that come with the PS5?
Paddles on the back. Very sturdy.

It's an absolutely crime that the joysticks for PS and XBox controllers aren't modular like the ones on the Switch joycon, which make switching to hall effect/TMR joysticks a breeze.

With the PS5 controllers, it's a PITA to switch out the factory joystick because there's a chance you might F up the calibration after the switch. SMH

The only good thing is that you can at least replace the analog stick modules easily. On the Xbox Pro controller you're screwed if the sticks get any drift.
For $40 you can (two sticks). That's as much as I paid for my last controller with hall effect sticks and back paddles!

The sale is over. I came back to price match to Best Buy, but too late. Add an alert - this will likely come back for Black Friday, or at least close.

I play a lot of shooters (Battlefield, Overwatch and some CoD) so I found it to be worth it for the hair triggers and back paddles. It is double the cost of normal dualsense controllers, but if you can afford it then I recommend it. Just know the battery life kind of sucks (3ish hours).
The triggers are not good at all

I find them good. I wish the triggers in the hair mode were more clicky though.

Definitely an upgrade. Also when you get drift, you can just replace the stick modules. I love mine.
