The 98 inch TCL QM7K stands out as a huge, bright mini LED TV with deep blacks, strong local dimming, and picture quality that gets compared favorably to OLED. It also draws praise for gaming features and Dolby Vision, and the size makes it a dramatic basement or home theater upgrade. The main cautions are its weight and awkward mounting needs, since the VESA holes sit low and a sturdy large mount or professional installation matters. A buzzing issue has also been reported on some 2024 and 2025 units, though other sets have no such problem.

  • Best Buy price matching can be blocked by policy or timing, including denials when the TV has not been delivered yet.

  • A buzzing issue has been reported for some 2024 and 2025 models, so the risk may exist even on the 2025 model line.

  • Mounting can be risky because the TV is very heavy and the mount hole placement may cause tilting without a solid setup.

  • Best Buy orders can arrive as grubby display models with high hours, and store or corporate support may not rectify the situation.

Did the Vivo MOUNT-VW120M hold up fine when extending the arms out?
Seems too, it is very heavy. Both my sons had to hold it up when I mounted it. There seems to be several of these same mounts sold under different brands.

BTW, the tv mount holes are very low on the TCL so the TV may tilt down without a good mount.

I don't extend it very far, just to get to cables & mainly to check the status window on our radon remediation system (they had it in the middle of the wall when we bought the house).

My biggest concern is pulling the studs out of the wall. It is a pretty heavy TV. đŸ˜„

This is probably because Asurion, the backend insurer, does not really cover any tv that is larger than 85 inches at that low price. Amazon may have made a mistake for previous sales and now corrected it.
I got the warranty on mine 3 weeks after purchase. With this concern I will have to contact them to make sure it is covered.

Has anyone upgraded from an 85" to this or the 100" Hisense? If so, is the size difference worth it?

My 2016 LeEco Umax85 is getting old and looking for a replacement. The LeEco has 3Ds but honestly I never used it much.

Waiting for the 115 inchers to come down sub-$5k, but I don't see that happening for a few years.
Thanks in advance for any help.
TIA
Homer

My greatsony xbr 75" went out & I replaced it with this one. I didn't know anything about TCL but researching this compared to others it stood out.

Now that it's up& running I couldn't be happier. It had an amazing picture, as close to OLED that I have seen.

I'd love the 115" but I had to dis assemble my stair case to get this one in the basement and it 98" is as big as I could fit.

Can anyone compare this against Hisense U7, it is only 200$ more and seems to have less reflections. I have a window opposite the TV.

Is there a pull down mount that will support this tv ? I have to install this above my fireplace and thus confused what mount to pick for such situation. Mantle mount only supports till 130 lbs or under and won't allow any higher ? How do you all install this ??
Checked and they don't seems to have any pull downs for 98" TV. Found one that ships from China but not too sure about purchasing that. Thinking of DIYing an across the fireplace console like this one here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbKi29EeYMg&t=5s

This TV weighs a tad under 125 lbs.
Any TV over 75" needs to be professional installed specially if an articulating wall mount or a pull down model is used.
The pull down models have a 90lbs limit. You'd have to find an upper level model and they usually tun over 800 bucks.

Why would this $4000 TV still have HDMI 2.0?

Yes it is
Not sure, but I got the 98" UM8K. I Saw all 3 side by side...7,8,9. 8 was worth the extra coin, 9 was not. It was just brighter, but so bright you will never use it cranked up. Nobody needs that much brightness. 8 is crazy bright too. BTW, I was able to easily get BB to pm NFS including installation for 2799 for the um8k, Ymmv.

A better deal is available through Walmart: the item costs about $2,000, a 5-year protection plan is only $75, and Angi installation is included for free. If you understand how to use the insurance, you're basically well covered—no need to spend 25% of the product's price on Geek Squad protection.

Angi can be a mess, but there's a workaround: when they create the booking page for your installation, include very specific details that make the job sound more complex. Most contractors won't accept it, and after enough failed matches, you can escalate. At that point Angi usually ends up paying out more to bring in a qualified professional, even if it means they take a loss, because they want to maintain their contract with Walmart.
