TP-Link's Wi Fi 7 lineup is praised for strong speeds, solid long term stability, and easy setup without needing an account for basic use. The Omada gear gets especially good marks as a more capable SMB and prosumer system, and some setups with wired backhaul or extenders have run well for months or years. The main knocks are weak range on several consumer models, occasional reboot or disconnect issues, and some features hidden behind a subscription. There are also recurring concerns about TP Link's U.S. ban risk and the listing's mesh 3 pack description being inaccurate, making this a practical but cautious pick.

Common Questions (5)

  • Range is often reported as weak, with some units struggling through walls or even in a small room. A few users say range is adequate in smaller homes or with an extender, but others needed to switch brands or add access points.

  • No account is needed for basic router operation. Logging in is only needed if you want to manage the devices remotely through the app.

  • Some models had reboot or speed issues at first, but firmware updates reportedly fixed them for certain users. Other units still show speed dips, disconnects, or MLO problems even after updates.

  • There is a reported federal ban effort tied to national-security concerns, which could affect future availability in the United States. That makes buying decisions more uncertain if you want long-term support or easy replacement.

  • The listing description appears to be wrong: this is not a mesh 3-pack. The same concern is raised for both items in the thread, so shoppers should verify the exact bundle before buying.

I have ASUS AC68U working without issues for the last I don't know how many years. I have Merlin software on it. The updates stopped about a year or two ago. I now have a need for the range to go to a room slightly back in the house. I was looking for a AX or AXE router to replace. I don't see the wifi 7 router as being useful. I do not have any wifi 7 devices as of now. Maybe the phone. But I don't need super fast access on that. TP-Link seems to have plenty of choices

I am confused. I see the same posts about TP-Link going to be banned constantly. However, professional review after review have the TP-Link as the top choice.

"Professional" reviewers get sponsor money, free equipment, possibly earn affiliate revenue, and gain early access to hardware in return. They have a very vested interest in playing nice with the people who pay their bills, because a bad review could mean they lose access and their livelihood. Look for crowd wisdom, which in the average will be unbiased.

Omada system works great
Omada is worlds apart from their consumer class products. Their consumer routers and products are made with the highest quality Chinesium that money can buy. The Omada switches and access points are actually good.

Get a mini PC with two ethernet ports and an access point. It will run you about the same amount of money but is substantially better. Wifi 7 is still almost useless to the consumer.

Isn't Omada made by TP-Link?
Yes, there are a few Omada products in this list. It's their SMB/prosumer software defined network solution, a more budget friendly competitor to unifi. With wired backhaul and a local controller, you can set up multiple AP with fast roaming. Works great!

I had the TP-Link Tri-Band BE19000 which was wifi 7 10gigabit port and a few 2.5 ports. I can honestly say the speed was there the range was crap even for 2.4ghz. I live in a 2 bedroom house 1000 sq ft with device router located in the center. I had to go the night hawk route and the to link in my closet us collecting dust.

I work in systems and networking and i gotta day these things suck. Maybe the firmware got better since jan but

I have one for several years and it is very stable, range is superb too
I agree. I have been very happy with them. I had several Netgear routers that died after about a year. In fact, I bought one because it had a lifetime warranty but it turns out that you had to pay an $80 phone fee to get the replacement. I got a free replacement but that died 14 months later. What a scam. I had a Linksys that lasted a little longer.I started buying TP Link for my family and in laws. No issues and that has been over 5 years.

TP makes a good router, but the need to be signed into their account (server) for it to function is not good.
I just set up one for someone. You do not need to sign in for it to work.

Can verify this. I ran a rather large review site and helped found OCZ Tech. We were all shady AF back then (20 years ago) and its only gotten shadier.

Take my word for it; Buy Ubiquiti. I've been meshed with them for a very long time now but am in the market for an upgrade.
