TP-Link's Wi Fi 7 lineup is praised for strong speeds, solid long term stability, and easy setup without needing an account for basic use. The Omada gear gets especially good marks as a more capable SMB and prosumer system, and some setups with wired backhaul or extenders have run well for months or years. The main knocks are weak range on several consumer models, occasional reboot or disconnect issues, and some features hidden behind a subscription. There are also recurring concerns about TP Link's U.S. ban risk and the listing's mesh 3 pack description being inaccurate, making this a practical but cautious pick.

Common Questions (5)

  • Range is often reported as weak, with some units struggling through walls or even in a small room. A few users say range is adequate in smaller homes or with an extender, but others needed to switch brands or add access points.

  • No account is needed for basic router operation. Logging in is only needed if you want to manage the devices remotely through the app.

  • Some models had reboot or speed issues at first, but firmware updates reportedly fixed them for certain users. Other units still show speed dips, disconnects, or MLO problems even after updates.

  • There is a reported federal ban effort tied to national-security concerns, which could affect future availability in the United States. That makes buying decisions more uncertain if you want long-term support or easy replacement.

  • The listing description appears to be wrong: this is not a mesh 3-pack. The same concern is raised for both items in the thread, so shoppers should verify the exact bundle before buying.

I have the be11000 the Wi-Fi 7 will occasionally dip in speeds even in the same room, I was hoping a firmware update would fix the problem but it hasn't after 2 since purchase. MLO network also causes the wifi to go crazy and disconnect multiple devices repeatedly until it's turned off.

I regret buying it.

TP makes a good router, but the need to be signed into their account (server) for it to function is not good.
You do not need to have an account to use the router.

I have the TP-Link BE3600 Wifi7 and a RE715X wifi7 Extender. Why did I choose this brand? Because it's what the local Walmart had at a good price at 11:30 PM at NIGHT when my previous setup unexpectedly died and the only other options with the same or better capabilities like 2.5 network ports were Netgear items that were twice the price. Decided to try since Walmart would let me return if they sucked.

Ended up working just fine and still using 4 months later without any issues whatsoever. No the range on the BE3600 aint the greatest, but it's good enough for my house, especially with the RE715X extender, which only has a smart TV and Ring unit connecting to it at the very furthest part of my house. Yes I know the extender reduces wifi bandwidth since it doesn't have a wired backhaul, but it doesn't matter since only a couple of lower bandwidth devices connect through it. And no, you don't have to be logged in to make anything work UNLESS you want to setup and manage the devices remotely via their app on your phone. I don't so it doesn't matter and I don't log in..

Is there other gear better in every way. Yes, but at a much higher cost and this was good enough for my needs currently and immediate late-night need. The 4 kids on 4 wifi-connected PC's aren't complaining about connectivity or speed issues. It has been running 4 months without any freezing up or reboot issues. I can't complain about the price when the router has 2.5G network ports that works flawlessly over a 50 foot exterior ethernet cable to my office room's 2.5G switch. Yeah I understand it's not a true Wifi7 implementation, but since none of my stuff except my lone Iphone 17 cell phone actually does Wifi7, it's not a big deal and I notice nothing different compared to my previous Iphone 13 using older Wifi tech.

I have two different thoughts here.

One, is that you should not be using a single router/access point combo unit if you want either of these functions to be done well--'jack of all trades, master of none'. The solution to this is to use a used enterprise router (which are cheaper than these consumer ones) and enterprise used access points which with brands like ruckus are far more reliable even in older versions than current consumer whizbangery. Oh and use your switch of choice for your wired devices.

Second, is that while the threat from cybersecurity and weaponization of the Internet is real, working with companies that do not directly feed info to the ccp is wise. This is the huwais, and other word salad named companies that when manufacturing cellular equipment have also been banned from the US. Usually when a company has a US headquarters that can be mobbed and burned to the ground, there is some restraint on feeding data to enemies, since it is traitorous, but it is still happening. All this being said, I have an older Archer c5 router in AP mode that has been wonderful. It's also pretty much locked away from the Internet so it can't phone home.

start rant

I don't know why ISPs are even allowing traffic from foreign nations knocking on every one of their public IPs. It's a waste of bandwidth and a huge worldwide threat. On our landline phones, we could always turn off international dialing and even incoming international calls and the same should be available and made mandatory by the FCC for every single isp. Then we can opt-in to foreign traffic if we need it, and otherwise if any foreign traffic is hitting us, it's a clear attack.

end rant

I Bought the BE11000 from Costco and this this has been a nightmare. I moved from Orbi because the last two I bought stopped working at exactly two years. The TP Link has been a such a pain. Very little wall penetration. It got so bad I had to segregate all of my Bands. So now I can't use 2.5 and 5GHz together for the speed and distance both of those would provide on a single SSID. Thinking about returning them and just biting the bullet with Ubiquiti.

Food for thought based on experience, recently went from an AX11000 to the Deco BE11000 (Costco model) and found many features behind a paywall. The most notable was parental controls being pretty hamstrung for scheduling. Really thinking about if its worth returning or just eating the $17 a year for the features.

Relevant info if considering buying these :

"There's a federal ban in the works for TP-Link routers with support from not just one but several federal departments and agencies. If successful, we could see networking devices from the company banned and blocked from sale in the United States. The reason? After a months-long risk assessment, investigators believe TP-Link products are a national security risk due to the vendor's ties to China, especially since routers handle sensitive internet data and connections. The ban, initially proposed by the United States Department of Commerce, has received additional support from agencies such as the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, and Defense.

While TP-Link Systems is a U.S. company based in Irvine, California, the manufacturer originally spun off from a China-based company called TP-Link Technologies. As such, many government officials are concerned that TP-Link Systems has ties to mainland China and that some former assets belong to the original Chinese operation. "

I doubt gl.inet is encouraging the ban since they are essentially a Chinese company too. Their two Chinese founders worked for major Chinese telecom companies before starting gl.inet.

In addition gl.inet sells a different version of their products in China with most of the VPN and security features removed. They also likely have the same backdoors as most other consumer networking equipment sold in China, which lets the Chinese government quickly and easily access the data of any networking device.

Nailed it, the push is nothing but a shill push by other manufactures so they can keep charging outrageous prices instead of fair prices for their tech. A router should not be $800....... Anyone who thinks it should clearly has more money than brains. Also this ban has been now talked about for almost 5 years, lol. Every few months someone takes the same information from over a year ago and just rehashes it with nothing new to add. Going to be hard for the US to ban TP-Link completely since many a base use their networking products, and also offered at the military on base stores to service men and women....

TP-Link constantly crushes the competitors or is on par for half the cost, and it makes them all scared. The Omada line had the best AP's money could buy and they were sometimes half the cost of other manufactures AP's.

As for people saying they are paying off reviewers, lolol, I guess they are paying all of them off equally than since they all seem to keep getting the latest gear sent to them consistentl.

GL.iNet is based in Hong Kong, which is pretty close to China! https://www.gl-inet.com/about-us/ states their address in Asia:

GL Tech (HK) Ltd: #601, 5W, Hong Kong Science Park, N.T. Hong Kong

I agree. I have been very happy with them. I had several Netgear routers that died after about a year. In fact, I bought one because it had a lifetime warranty but it turns out that you had to pay an $80 phone fee to get the replacement. I got a free replacement but that died 14 months later. What a scam. I had a Linksys that lasted a little longer.I started buying TP Link for my family and in laws. No issues and that has been over 5 years.
...and to provide another data point: I have a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 which still works great. Using it as an access point. It's nearly 10 years old and working well.

Not trying to defend Netgear, just posting to show that there are good and bad products in every brand. The Nighthawk R7000 is a good one.
