This bundle is mainly a cheap way to extend Microsoft 365, with NordVPN as a bonus. The Microsoft side gives Office apps, 1TB of OneDrive, and easy photo backup, and the code can stack on existing subscriptions. Redeeming a Personal code on Family often converts to 9 months, though some accounts hit conversion errors or support roadblocks, especially after certain retail extensions. Stacking is capped at 5 years, so it works best for accounts that can accept the conversion.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes, a Personal code can convert into prorated Family time, commonly 9 months from a 12-month Personal code. The redemption flow may briefly suggest a full year or bonus recurring-billing month, then finalize at 9 months.

  • Microsoft subscription codes can stack up to 5 years. Codes themselves do not expire, and adding a 12-month Personal code to an active subscription simply extends the current term.

  • Yes, it can be redeemed on top of an existing Microsoft 365 subscription, including Family, and extend the term. The Microsoft portion may prorate to 9 months rather than a full 12, so the bundle can be a cheaper way to add Microsoft time if you also want NordVPN.

  • Not always. One reported case says Microsoft support would not convert a Personal code into prorated Family time when the Family subscription had been extended with certain retail prepaid codes, so the conversion can depend on how the existing subscription was originally redeemed.

  • Yes, Microsoft 365 Personal includes the desktop Office apps, not just the online version. It also includes 1TB of OneDrive storage for photo backup and file syncing.

Just to confirm, Microsoft hasn't killed conversion. I did a conversion about 2 years ago. Just want to make sure MS hasn't changed their policy on this in the last 2 years. Thanks.
A word of caution, FWIW. We have a 365 Family sub, I usually have it extended out 3 or 4 years, and the past number of extensions have been via retail prepaid codes like this, bought from the military Exchange site (AAFES). I picked a Personal code cheap a year or two back, and went to redeem it for the prorated months on the Family sub, and they would not do it. I went around and around....and AROUND...with Microsoft support, and the answer received at every level was that because we had redeemed 365 Family codes to extend our sub, we could not convert a Personal code to prorated months on the Family sub. There was a link in the account management interface that did not exist because of having extended via retail codes, it was impossible to apply the Personal code. YMMV, I know people do this, but I will never try it again, I'll just get discounted Family codes when necessary.

Did you have an active family subscription already when you added the personal codes?I think i saw something about converting back to individual if you add individual code on an active family plan. Need to check... don't want to deal with cs calls and emails...
i already have an active family account. when i went to redeem they asked if i wanted to switch to personal or convervt to family. chose family

another poster said they went the personal route and on the last code they redeemed a family code

Is the only way to get lifetime Office membership through grey keys?
No. Don't buy grey keys. This is the 365 sub, where as lifetime is for the standalone non online version of the products.

Question for those who stacked. I recently did this but have another question regarding stacking the M365 Premium (the one that includes copilot). I currently have M365 Family w/ almost 5 years left. It did say if I did upgrade it would "convert" my days over to the Premium, but my question is would stacking this personal on top of the Premium conversion work? because If i did upgrade i would clearly not have 5 years and could purchase more for the stacking? Has anyone tried this with the Premium version? TYIA

That's okay! I have no need for the online features. Thank you for letting me know, though.
