I work on one of the 14" version of this every day. The keyboard is terrible for touch typists, and the screen colors are poop, but everything else is pretty good.

How is the battery on this as far as expanding and heat? I'm so hesitant to get another HP because of how mine is now, expanded and bloated but supposedly not part of the recalls...

Not a fan of the 16inch, I had the one with the Ryzen 7 and swapped it for the 14 inch. so far so good, almost a month in, suits my needs for school.

The problem is the race to make devices thinner. Lithium batteries in older laptops could be thicker in the past, resulting in a much smaller number of failures over long term use. They typically contained multiple cylindrical Li batteries that rarely saw their separator material fail, resulting in expansion.

Now that batteries must be designed thinner for thin devices, the separator material is often very thin, resulting in a shorter lifetime before battery failure. I've seen batteries fail and expand in Apple, HP, Dell and Lenovo devices. No vendor is immune. The worst have been the cheap chromebooks with thin batteries. Some lines have 80%+ failure rates after 5 years, because the company that tends to win the cheapest contract tends to produce cut-rate batteries. They close up shop after a few years, then open as a "new company" and do the same crap, all over again.

The good news is laptop batteries are typically easy to replace and generally cheap.
