The Seagates seem to get cheaper. With the 20% back PayPal offer this will do for WD.

seems pretty good for a new WD, which is what I am looking for. Are these still full featured white labels? No firmware limiting or speed cuts or anything when running in a nas?

Reminder for those that use this for plex or the like instead of as a backup drive, the BB WD externals can have their sleep function turned off with the supplied WD drive util (other WD externals including from WD can't unless you're dismantling them.) This is $20 more than last BF but still a good price for people needing this brand/model. If you're happy with seagate, good on you, go save your money Now off to convince myself I don't need to replace the 14s with 20s at this price since I just bought two 20s in july for spitting distance of this price (280).

Does turning off sleep function have a impactful effect on the life of the drive?

There is a lot of argument on that but assuming you are using it multiple times a day then I would strongly argue yes because spinning up and down causes more wear on the (mechanical) drive, the more you do it the more wear it causes. This can cause a failure eventually (hence arguments) if you're only using it to backup things every X days and then are leaving it unplugged there would be no reasonable argument on the extended wear front.

The WD white labels have always had firmware that limited their speed.
