Just snagged this! I have an ancient Kindle that's only worth a token $5 trade-in but gives the 20% discount off the on sale price, making it $30 off plus the $5 equals $119+tax.

This only worked for me when buying an ad-supported model (and then removing ads afterwards). Trying to buy a non-ad version directly would show the discounted price on the product page, but not apply the discount in my cart.
