Thanks OP, been waiting on a decent deal on a turntable and this more than qualifies. I'm not picky so ended up snagging an "open-box excellent condition" option at Best Buy for $150.

It's better than the "record player" type models that have been around for a few years with the resurgence of vinyl. However from an audiophile standpoint this is pretty basic. I've always found that the speakers are what to put money into however.

Perfect! Just bought one. It has pre-amp built-in as well (can switch off).

As the needle is a consumable, I am not sure if I would pick a used one...

Wow, according to three camels this was a $150-200 turntable all day on Amazon before mid '21. $450 is a complete shaft.

This has been a ~$200 +-$20 for years. I got mine for $160.

The preamps are a bit noisy but I have my player running on a 35 foot line to my receiver.
I found the line out gets noisy when you exceed 4-5 feet

I bought this exact turntable in 2021 for $199, so this isn't a new/upgraded model or anything. That said, no complaints. I have it hooked up to Sony receiver and Sony bookshelf speakers. Is the sound better than a stereo pair of HomePods? No. But putting your favorite limited edition vinyl record on is satisfying.

I'd say the Audio Technica LP120XBT as the initial AT model to pick, $400-500. Quality obviously goes up from there as the price rises.

Agreed, the $450 retail isn't realistic. Standard price these days for this Sony is $300 plus or minus. Price even a year ago was often $100 cheaper for a lot of these "starter turntables". The economy, tariffs, or whatever has spiked the price across the brands.
$200 is the new deal for this unfortunately.
It's still a basic turntable, but it does come with a number of features that the other brand starter models don't, e.g. auto stop or especially auto return.

The needle is a cheap replacement on this unit $10-20. That said, it doesn't have a removable cartridge, so you can't really upgrade it in any meaningful way. You can just replace the consumed needle, when needed.

Covid payouts, any honest manufacturer/seller on ali, probably the best barometer, has raised prices maybe 10% at most. Regardless, the price change happened years ago. This is money printing during covid mixed with an easy excuse to raise prices even further

Lol have you seen Best Buy's return window? It's like three weeks, bud. I think I'll take my chances, not to mention open-box doesn't necessarily mean used. Thanks anyways.
