Brand new $1,000+ server motherboards come with VGA.

Just say you don't work in tech and leave it at that.

Right, because most servers don't run systems that need GPU power, so they use basic svga because it makes economic sense.

Macs are specifically geared toward gpu-intensive tasks like graphic design and video editing. So, tell me you don't work in tech and leave it at that.

Wrong. But nice wild guess.

GPUs (in the form of graphics cards) add a lot of power draw and heat. Servers don't need that functionality or extra cost, so it isn't added.

But please explain how my last 30 years in IT, working as a server engineer, is wrong. I'll wait.

Crypto miners aren't servers. The stuff AI is using aren't really servers in the conventional sense.

But please, blather on aimlessly.
I said server MOTHERBOARD. Don't hurt yourself moving those goal posts.

Whatever you want to call the box they are put into is immaterial. $1,000+ server MOTHERBOARDS come with VGA. And even if 4 fancy displayport enabled GPUs are stuff onto them they still use VGA. You may not be aware of that, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen all the time.

Anyway VGA ports are still in lots of places in the enterprise world and it is not rare nor surprising to see them.

Server motherboards are for servers, right? The goal posts didn't move. Motherboards didn't used to have any GPUs at all. You used to need a separate card to get any video output (at least in the IBM PC side of things). These days, CPUs often have built in GPU functionality.

Servers are purpose-built, and digital graphics outputs for a headless system is silly. Also, a purpose-built GPU-oriented server is going to use cards anyway.

We are pretty much saying the same thing, you just want to pretend that you're super smart or something. If it makes you feel good to think you won an argument on the internet with some stranger that doesn't care anything about you, congratulations on winning

no.

Server motherboards can be used for whatever you want to use them for. Server motherboard is just a general short hand name so people in the know have some idea what you are talking about.

It is like sports car. Sports cars are not just for motorsports and racing on closed tracks.

It is like how they have "laptop" cpus in desktops. They also have server motherboards in desktops.

You've never seen an off road vehicle which spends 100% of its time on the road?

It is just a name.

If that triggers you then there are monitors with VGA connections, KVMs, digital projectors, VGA cables, Threadripper WORKSTATION motherboards have VGA (SuperMicro M12SWA-TF) etc. I actually have multiple LCD monitors at my house that ONLY have VGA connections.

My point is VGA is common in the enterprise and it is not surprising at all to encounter it.
