The TCL QM8K stands out as a bright room TV with strong daytime performance, and the 4K panel is the real resolution despite the model name. It is often described as a step up from the QN90D for bright spaces, with very good picture quality and an impressive sound system. The main caveats are weaker dark room performance than OLED, some reports of blur, humming or buzzing at high brightness, and the ARC port not being HDMI 2.1. It looks like a solid fit if your room has a lot of light and you can work around the audio setup.
Common Questions (5)
No. The ARC/eARC port is not a 2.1 port, so some buyers see that as a limitation if they want multiple HDMI 2.1 devices plus audio return on the same setup.
Yes. It is repeatedly described as strong in bright-room use and daytime viewing, with better performance than many alternatives in well-lit spaces. In darker rooms, OLEDs still have the edge for deeper blacks and less haloing.
Yes. A practical setup is to plug a 2.1 device like an Xbox into another HDMI port and use the ARC port only for the soundbar or receiver, which still gives you sound and 2.1 video. This is most useful if you do not have multiple 2.1 devices competing for ports.
The built-in audio is described as average rather than standout. It may be acceptable in a tight space, but several buyers still preferred adding a soundbar or receiver for better bass and fuller sound.
No. It is a 4K TV; "8K" is only part of the model name.
