Your going to get a fake one and when you try to return it to Amazon they are going to accuse you sending in a fake one.

how could a last gen drive like this be "fake"? And how to spot it?

Thats a big fat NO. Ordered two separate "used" nvme drives last amazon sale. Both were new and not initialized in windows(which is probably why they were returned)

The problem is you have absolutely no idea how the drive was previously used.
Many used Gen5 SSDs are:
  • Pulled from workstations
  • Used for video editing
  • Used for AI workloads
  • Or used in NVMe arrays
These workloads often involve huge continuous writes, which wear SSDs down faster.
I recently purchased the Crucial P510 2TB Gen5 for $133 brand new. If the Samsung SSD 9100 PRO 2TB was new at $140 then it would be a great Black Friday deal. But since the drive is used I would say this deal is a Thumbs down.

Yeah, no, doesn't the drive have some sort of odometer with drive status, miles, and hours or something useful like that? Unlike a GPU, CPU, or RAM?

CrystalDiskInfo will show the amount of data that has been written to it, uptime, power cycle count and more. Easy to see how much use the drive has or hasn't seen.
