Reviews are good but understand the track record on secondary consoles(which is what this is) is not good. I would be greatly surprised if this is still being supported in 8-10 months. You are essentially buying an Xbox Kinect, which didn't even survive with Microsoft's backing.

EDIT: And, it is subscription based game-play.

I have owned one of these for around a year. The amount of new games released via the subscription has been shockingly high. We have a PS5, Switch 2, and a gaming PC in the house and this thing still sees a ton of use from our 7 and 4 year old. I have been shocked by the overall quality of the system as well as the games/fitness apps. Also, from what I have seen it has been a quiet hit for the company, so I don't foresee it getting mothballed anytime soon.

Nex Playground is an active play system that keeps young kids moving with simple motion games, and the subscription keeps adding new titles and fitness apps. The built in library includes five games, with optional sports add ons, and it works well in small spaces and even offline after downloads, making it useful for travel or hospital rooms. The main drawback is the ongoing paid subscription, and the platform has some uncertainty around long term support. Still, the strong kid appeal and steady content updates make it feel like a practical pick for families.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. It is designed for motion-based play and gets kids up and moving, with multiple comments noting that children use it often and enjoy it. It has been used successfully for small kids, including in winter when outdoor play is harder.

  • Yes. The core gameplay is subscription-based, and the included games and updates are tied to that subscription. The upside is that new games continue to be added regularly, so the library keeps growing.

  • A like-new unit has been bought for as low as $138, and several buyers report receiving units in great condition or as returns with accessories included. The main tradeoff is that the subscription still applies, so the value depends on whether you want ongoing game access.

  • Yes. Once the games are downloaded, it can be played without being online, which makes it useful for travel and hotel stays.

  • The system includes 5 games: Fruit Ninja, Whack-a-Mole Deluxe, Party Fowl, Go Keeper, and Starri. A separate 3-game Sports Pack with tennis, baseball, and bowling is also available.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I run the gaming program in a children's hospital, and we love these to get kids moving around. Physical therapists still ask for Wii from time-to-time, and this has fully supplanted that tech for us. Tracking is good, the wide angle lens lets it operate in even relatively small spaces (like bedside in a hospital room.) The amount of titles is quite high. For this price, if you're on the fence, I'd say go in.

I saw this on display in a cramped area of my local target and was impressed it worked well in that space but also with a ton of people and noise in the background. Yes, it's limited, but little kids don't need a lot. it's a nice alternative to adult consoles, keeps players active, and has notes of vtuber - putting kids in the games, because more and more are craving broadcasting themselves. I think it's a good product. My business does AR games (not these) and it's a really tough market because no one wants to hold a phone camera up while playing a game, especially adults. I think they did right here having a static tv experience and targeting pre-k though 5. Those ages love that shit and it's a mindless setup that just works.

For what it's worth my kids received one of these for Christmas last year and I was skeptical. I never would have bought it for them myself. That said I paid for this subscription for the games and I'll be renewing this year.
The kids have a blast with it and play it at least once a week which makes it worth it in my book. It's especially nice in the winter when going outside isn't as easy but they've got some energy to burn off.

For reference they are three and six

Played one at Sam's Club yesterday. Pretty cool for SMALL children. Its way to expensivefor what it does and the games are only available with a paid subscription. These need to given away or sold sub $50 cheap.

Great little device with (sometimes) shockingly great games. My 4 and 6 year old love it. This is around the same price you can find them for on Facebook Marketplace. I got it (and the yearly subscription) earlier this year and it's been a hit with my kids and all their friends and family. They sometimes add 2 or 3 new games per month.

Originally passed on this when it was first posted. Then tonight at Target my kids went up to the display and started using it. I had never heard of this before this post, and never actually seen it before tonight. But after seeing them use it in the store I decided to buy first and think more on it later. Looks good though.

Is this OK for kids who are 10 and 13? Or too old?

Got mine yesterday as well. Definitely was a return. Power cable, HDMI, and remote were included. Accessories and system were wrapped in clear wrapping, batteries pre-installed, return sticker on the back of the system, etc. Amazon delivered it with no additional packaging - they slapped the delivery label right on the Nex box and taped over the entire thing.

No damage from what I can see. I was hoping it would truly "open box", but it still had someone else signed in with an active play pass, so that's a win until it expires.
