These are kind of cool because you get 6 outlets, and each outlet can be toggled on/off, and each outlet gets individual power monitoring. It integrates with Home Assistant too.

Yep. I've been eyeing these for awhile. I have the 3-outlet with 2 USB ports and love it. I used them outdoors during the holidays with the schedule features. It had helped me a lot with the automations for all my lights.

I have a few of these. What I don't like is that it doesn't have the advanced monitoring that the individual plugs have. For example, I can see the graph of how it's used throughout the day with the individual plugs. This only shows past 24 hours of consumption.

Is Tplink one with matter support better since it offers offline control?

Yes the Tapo version is better and will have longer support. The Kasa brand is slowly being phased out it seems.

You'd need to stuff it inside a weatherproof electrical box. These range from $15-25

I have Home Assistant importing all the data and controlling all the switched outlets, so I don't even look at the TP-Link app. I also use it for alerting and automation. I can pull up charts for my electricity consumption going back many months.
It also supports alerts. For example, if my kitchen refrigerator uses too much electricity in a day, that's an alert on my phone. If it uses too little electricity, that's an alert. If the wireless temperature sensor inside the fridge or freezer goes over temperature for too long, that's an alert.
Last December, I actually noticed my fridge was broken because the TP-Link monitored electricity consumption spiked. Back then I didn't have any alerting - just graphs. But I happened to look at the graph one day and saw the anomaly. "That's not good."
Nowadays I have lots of automated monitoring to notice anomalies like that even faster in the future.

I had an automation running with 2 power monitoring plugs for my washer and dryer. When the power consumption is over X (I don't recall what it was set to) for a certain period of time and then the power consumption is 0 for a certain period of time (to account for washer soaking cycles), then turn the light bulb red. It worked well for some time until both plugs failed. I never went back to replace the plugs. I was concerned that they would just fail again.

This thing has been a life saver for my aquariums. Lights, filters, CO2, etc all super easy to control in one place (or home assistant instead).

I asked rufus about the non-cloud Home Assistant options:

Based on your search history for Home Assistant compatible power strips, the Kasa Smart Power Strip HS300 has limited Home Assistant compatibility and cannot operate purely locally without cloud access.
Current Status with Home Assistant:
  • Requires cloud connectivity for most smart features
  • Can be integrated with Home Assistant through the Kasa integration, but still depends on TP-Link's cloud service
  • Physical buttons work without internet, but no smart automation
Better Local Control Options:
I found several alternatives that offer better local network control:
Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Power Strip- 6 Individually Controlled Smart Outlets and 3 USB Ports with Surge Protection, Matter, Works w/Alexa, Google Home, Siri, & Bixby, No Hub Needed, Tapo P316M
Matter Smart Power Strip,Works with Apple HomeKit, Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant, with 4 Individually Controlled AC Outlets & 2 USB 2 Type-C Ports, Multi-Plug Extender for Home Office
XENON ZigBee Power Strips Surge Protector, USB C Power Strip, Smart Life APP/Timer, 4 Individually Controlled Outlets, Compatible with Alexa Google Home Phillilps HUE, Need ZigBee Gateway Hub
ZigBee Smart Power Strip Surge Protector,Smart Fast Charge, 4 Individually Controlled Outlets, Compatible with Alexa Google Home Phiilps HUE, Black
For true local-only operation with Home Assistant, the Zigbee options provide complete local control without any cloud dependency once paired with your Home Assistant's Zigbee integration.
