This is NOT toolless, and uses a torx head screw. It comes with a mini torxdriver, but for those wanting a quick swappable drive, this ain't it. Works nicely, though, and for those wanting a permanent external drive, this is a great price.

I have a bunch of these and I get like 1.5-1.6 GB/s reads and writes. If you are getting 12M speeds (12 MB/s???), maybe there is a problem with the cables or the port? One other thought--the firmware on these never comes up-to-date so you might try flashing a later version, which you can find at https://github.com/bensuperpc/rtl9210

Good luck with this and I hope you eventually get this figured out because this drive can definitely run much faster than 12 MB/s!

Check USB connection speed on your machine. I tested two of these and they'd generally connect at only USB2 12M speeds (both Linux and Windows, other devices connected at USB3 5G)

10 Gbps is like 1250 MB/s. A lot of ssds read/write faster than this.

edit: I'm not saying this is an issue. I'm just saying don't expect full nvme ssd speeds. The oldest samsung nvme which is a 950 i believe is faster than the max supported speed this enclosure supports.

Most games will run perfectly fine on 10gbps, downloads and patches might take a few minutes longer but loading a game or saving a game will probably be less than 15% slower than most drives at full

Thanks, definitely tested cables, different laptops, drives, OSs. But could have been my bad luck of the draw, generally an OK brand.

So my comment is not to TD but more for folks to check when they get it.

I purchased one of these in the past and it works great. The only comment I will add is that it's not vented on the top although the image gives that appearance.

Im not getting any discount with that code. But I'm realizing that the last few code uses also failed for me.

I swear I saw a comment on another Item about code issues a few weeks back but now can't find the info. Anyone have any suggestions?

One of the worst external drive enclosures I've ever bought, and I had two of them (one as a replacement when the first failed). The second failed too. Terrible.
I have no connection with them, but Graugear has become my go to.

I will say having exposed heat fins works alot better than the ones where the fins are pressing against the metal case or air gapped.

Sure there is. At checkout, click to change payment method and there's a "Enter a gift card, voucher or promotional code" box at the bottom.
