I started with 2 4TB drives and quickly found out that it works best with 4, and that's a 24+ hour transfer.
So i'd recommend TWO drives of a huge capacity and going raid 1 (meaning one drive is redundant), or getting 4 drives of equal capacity and going raid 5. That's what I'm at and now I'm wishing I had done bigger than 4 4TB drives, but that's a good 10ish TB of usable space.
UGREEN has a great os and app, and that's huge. It backs up all my phone photos and serves as a Plex server. I've used about 5TB so far
In July of this year, this was listed at $429.99 with a drop to $386.99 in August.
There have been two lightning deals for a brand new on September 10 and again on September 30th for $364.98 each time.
Then the price shot back up to $429.99 and it's been like that since October 12th until now, on sale at $339.99 for brand new.
Community Reviews
UGREEN's 4 bay DH4300 Plus looks like a solid starter NAS for basic backup, phone photo syncing, and Plex, with a decent app and enough room for a simple RAID setup. The main appeal is flexibility if you start with matching drives, since RAID 1 or RAID 5 works best with equal capacities and the usable space lands around 10 terabytes with four 4 terabyte drives. The Rockchip processor is considered too weak for Docker or heavier workloads, and the RAID setup does not offer Synology style mixed capacity convenience. It is a diskless unit, so drives must be supplied separately, making it a better fit for straightforward storage than advanced tinkering.
people planning to buy their own drives and set up a straightforward RAID1/RAID5 layout because it's diskless (you must furnish the hard drives yourself) and the experience shared recommends 2 large drives for RAID1 or 4 equal drives for RAID5.
home users who want a starter NAS for simple file storage and media sharing because the commenter says it's a great starter NAS, backs up phone photos, and can serve as a Plex server.
buyers who already have an Amazon Prime Business account and can use an Amazon Business Credit Card at checkout because one commenter reports an instant $200 Amazon Gift Card balance that reduced their out-of-pocket cost.
people who want to mix and match different-capacity drives in the same array because commenters note it doesn't have Synology's SHR-style flexibility and RAID usable capacity is limited by the smallest drive.
people expecting a true Black Friday-style discount because multiple commenters dispute the deal framing and say the item has been at this price for weeks (or that the "normal price"/rebate claim isn't credible).
users who plan to run Docker-heavy workloads because the Rockchip CPU is described as too weak to run things like Docker well (though it may be fine for basic backup).
buyers who are looking for a "set it and forget it" security posture because commenters warn NAS devices are prime ransomware targets and that many NAS vendors have poor security-update practices, recommending hardening or running extra services off the NAS.

I agree. I've had this in my 'saved for later' cart for at least a month at this price. So I'm not really believing this is a Black Friday deal.
Synology has changed their hardware so it will only accept Synology labeled hard drives.

eh, not really. Not sure where you're getting your info from to say it's normally $347. I'm using a price tracker program and this is technically the lowest it's been since being listed on Amazon.

I'm looking for a NAS also but I'll very patiently wait until Friday/Monday to make a purchase. Hoping that Synology will surprise us with something nice.
