If they keep jacking up price like that, I am going to file myself. The tax has been simplified a lot these years. It is not like I really need a software nowadays.

I used TT for a few years and then switched to HR Block then to FreeTaxUSA. I think for most people the switch should be seamless, if you don't have things like business asset depreciation that happens over a few years (I do have this but I could still manage). If you don't like TT, feel free to vote with your money.

I made the mistake of ordering TT during BF and then found out Fidelity offers free (or discounted) TT for some customers. I think the Fidelity offer pops up around Dec and depends on your account. I will wait to see what happens next month.

Don't use them. Intuit lobbies politicians to vote against free tax filing. They also can hold your tax refund hostage.

Just a heads up:
TurboTax 2025 Only works with Windows 11 and above.
Looks like others like HR Block will still work with Windows 10.

I need premier for the peanuts I get in mineral rights royalties. It's the same price at Sam's and Costco but you get $10 to go towards state e-file

If using Windows 10, you can file using the online TT but much more costly.
Many pc systems are not upgradable to Windows 11.

I bought this last week. I wanted get an estimate of my tax refund or payment for 2025. TurboTax is UNUSABLE right now! So many sections that say 'will be available soon'!! I went to FreeTax USA, could enter about 90% of my info and got an estimate right now! I have use TurboTax for many years, but starting to look elsewhere......... Sorry for the rant

I think for regular expenses, it should be seamless. If you have things that depreciate over a number of years, then it would take a bit of work to manually tell the new software about the depreciation schedule. If you have many of such depreciation-over-years to manually import, then it's gonna be some work. But idk if HRBlock and alike (but not FreeTaxUSA)can import TT's proprietary files, which might make the import seamless.
