Community Reviews
The Radster Trail Large stands out as a heavy but polished e bike with strong value at the sale price, especially when the PayPal offer drops it to around $640. It fits riders about 5 foot 7 to 6 foot 4 with a 27 to 35 inch inseam, and the large red frame is the version on sale. The bike is praised for solid components, smooth rides, and easy assembly with good video guidance. Main cautions are its weight, rear hub motor maintenance hassle, final sale status, and ongoing Rad support and battery safety concerns.
Common Questions (6)
There are repeated concerns about Rad Power's future, including shutdown or bankruptcy risk, which could affect support and parts availability. The bike uses many generic components and some riders expect parts or battery rebuild services to remain available, but buying from a brand with uncertain support is still a risk.
You need to click the 20% PayPal offer in your PayPal account before checkout; Best Buy checkout may not show the discount. The reward can appear later as pending points, and the bike has been bought for about $640 after the PayPal savings.
Best Buy was confirmed to provide a 2-year warranty, with repair or replacement options. Rad Power's own support was not covering at least one Best Buy purchase issue, so the practical warranty path is through Best Buy rather than Rad.
Yes. The bike is described as very heavy, around 78 lb, so a sturdy bike stand and a strong bike rack are useful. Rear wheel or tube work can be awkward because the rear motor and derailleur make removal more cumbersome.
The Large Radster Trail is listed for riders about 5'7" to 6'4" with an inseam of 27" to 35". A practical fit check from the thread also suggests it suits riders around 67" to 76" tall.
Yes. The Best Buy listing for this bike was called out as final sale, meaning it cannot be returned under the store policy mentioned in the thread.

But this explains why they are going out of business.
Even people with money to waste are starting to notice they see serviceable and decent bikes coming from walmart that are sub $500 and we have third world villagers using and being able to afford them. Ebikes are doing like the Model T or computers did not just a toy or tech for the rich.
Pandemic-fueled overproduction: Many companies, both high-end and budget, over-ordered and produced too many bikes in anticipation of continued high demand, leading to excess inventory when demand slowed significantly in 2022.
Market saturation: The market became oversaturated with the influx of new, often cheaper companies during the pandemic, making it harder for all brands to maintain market share and profits.
Demand normalization: As life returned to normal, demand decreased, and commuters returned to public transportation, putting a strain on companies that had large stockpiles of unsold inventory.
Cost and supply chain issues
Supply chain disruptions: Companies face long and inconsistent lead times for components, making it difficult to match production with demand.
Rising costs: Tariffs and other rising import costs have significantly increased the price of components and finished bikes, squeezing already thin margins.
Lack of domestic supply chain: The U.S. lacks the infrastructure for producing components like motors and batteries, forcing reliance on overseas supply chains and making companies vulnerable to their disruptions and costs.
Financial and operational challenges
Strained finances: Financial strain from overstocking, rising costs, and falling profits has forced many companies to lay off workers or even file for bankruptcy.
High operating costs: Factors like high labor costs for U.S.-based assembly and the need for significant investment in innovation and marketing make it difficult for even established brands to remain sustainable without high sales volume.
Business model challenges: Some high-end companies, like those that focused on extensive customization, are struggling with the costs associated with offering many options and have not been able to weather the downturn.
Awesome bike if a bit heavy.
Mine was just over $600 with PayPal & cash back site….that is Chinese drop ship bike price.
Willing to take the risk if Rad closes for that price.

I just picked up both bikes yesterday. The closest Best Buy is about 90 minutes away. I got both of them assembled today. I really took my time with the first one. The second one took me about 40 minutes to assemble. I tried powering up the second one and I got the following fault "ERROR 25 BRAKE SENSOR ERROR". This error occurs if the brake lever is engaged when being powered on.
I just got off the phone with technical support. We found the fault to be located on the right side brake lever. The brake switch connectors are located under the down tube cover. He said that I'd have to pay $95 for the part and $10 shipping. He said bikes purchased from Best Buy aren't covered by warranty.
I'll have to try and give Best Buy a call and see what they say. Hope everyone else has better luck.
UPDATE:
I found the source of the problem. I tried adjusting the magnetic brake switch on the right lever. That seemed to allow the brake switch to function again, but it wouldn't hold it's adjustment. The brake light would turn on and off if I moved the cable. I found the video below and decided to remove the cable. It looked like the internal spring was missing. I couldn't find any info about this spring, so I disassembled the left side magnetic brake switch too. That side had a spring inside. So, the issue was the right side TEKTRO brake lever switch was missing the internal adjustment spring. I'll have to get a replacement spring and should be good to go! Just not very impressed with Rad Power Bikes tech support.

Granted this article is from last year, but clearly shows Rad Power partnering with Best Buy.

By all appearances Best Buy is an authorized retailer, meaning they should be honoring their 2-year warranty.
This is BS on Rad Power's part. They are probably just really pissed Best Buy sold these at fire sale prices.
