Can you please explain more detail? I think with 30% tax credit, no other brand can beat the price. Thank you

How is it a ripoff? What requires online to access? Why is it not good for backup?
I've been running my entire home "including 3 ton AC" for almost 2 years, entirely off grid while living in a city. It's only had 1 minor hiccup which was resolved in 48 hours with a pushed firmware.

I agree, Probably the best plug and play system. With the 30% tax credit, it's hard to beat! Yes, you can build/piece together a system for cheaper, but it takes time, more money than you think and knowledge.
RelaxedShow7114 is either confused, or don't know what they're talking about.

This DPU 18 kWh was $7020 at Earthtech earlier this year, and $7200 with free solar panel at Costco in June. I suspect it will get cheaper before the year ends.

Yes, I started off with a Smoothstarter brand, but it is junk and crapped out in 5 days, they refused to replace it under warranty then blocked my email and phone.
I replaced it with a Micro-Air EasyStart Flex unit, which has been flawless for a year.

Yes, possibly. Although if you're not happy with your purchase at Costco, you may return it. This does not fall under the 90-day return
