This BJ's renewal deal is a very cheap way to reactivate an expired membership, with the best results coming from the posted renewal link after signing in first. The $5 price often shows up correctly even when the promo code fails, and some accounts can be renewed through chat or on a phone or computer browser. The main catch is eligibility, since current members, active accounts, and some long expired accounts may be pushed to a $20 Plus upgrade or blocked entirely. Auto renew can also turn back on, so it is worth checking the renewal settings afterward.
renewing an already-expired BJ's Wholesale Club membership for the $5 price because commenters repeatedly said the OP-provided renewal link (not just the promo code) updated the renewal offer and let them pay $5 (or $5.33/$5.44 after tax) to reactivate for another term.
people who need a workaround when the normal renewal page won't load or won't show the offer because commenters said opening a private browser/new tab, or using the "Get Deal at BJ's" tab, or clicking the OP link from the renewal flow made the $5 offer appear.
members who prefer doing the renewal on a computer/web flow (not the app) because multiple commenters reported the promo/code failed in the BJ's app and only worked via a web browser or by using the renewal link.
buyers who want to avoid a future $60 auto-renew charge because commenters said the renewal flow can push upgrades and/or auto-renew, so they recommend turning off auto-renewal right after renewing.
households managing multiple BJ's accounts (or rotating emails) because commenters said the renewal worked even when using an email tied to an expired membership, and also worked when they tried a different email/account.
people whose membership is expiring soon (within days) and are willing to use BJ's chat/support if the $5 offer doesn't show because at least one commenter got the $5 promo rate with chat assistance when they had 6 days left.
people trying to use the promo code by itself (especially after login) because multiple commenters reported the code (e.g., EZ13CL) wouldn't apply and that the renewal only worked when they used the provided renewal link instead.
buyers whose membership expired many years ago (around 4+ years) because commenters said the renewal link/promo didn't work and that their accounts appeared purged or the site wouldn't recognize the login/eligibility.
people who want a guaranteed "full 1-year renewal" from the renewal date because commenters warned the $5 offer may be an upgrade (or may renew from the expiration date / follow BJ's TOS timing rules), so the resulting expiration can be shorter than expected.
current BJ's members (or people treated as current) because commenters said the site can block eligibility with messages like "As a current member, you're not yet eligible for this offer," and one commenter said it won't work for current or new members.
people who can't access the renewal flow due to technical blockers or device limitations because commenters said the deal failed on some devices (e.g., phone vs PC) or required disabling a link-blocker/VPN to load the chat/renewal scripts.
buyers who don't want to deal with auto-renew/upgrade confusion because commenters reported cases where checkout/household settings prevented canceling auto-renew, or where the renewal flow upgraded to Club+ for $20/$60 unless they intervened.

There are several things we detest about Costco - often snotty employees (they usually push across your path rather than deferring to the customer, as an example. It's clear they feel their employment is for life), crappy app, Costco.com (really a different company), and buyers who will sacrifice a vendor for a few pennies. But the fact remains, we spend the most there. And they sell Top Tier gas, pretty much required if you have very common GDI ("Direct Injection") engine vehicles.
Sams has the best app by far of the three - Scan & Go is amazing, as well as the automatic exit arches (you have to use a shopping cart for it to work). But we buy very little at Sams - they've dropped a lot of the stuff we used to buy. And their gas lines, no matter how short, are SLOW, at least around us. One big plus - when they clear out old inventory, they don't mess around - heavy discounts.
BJs has more choices in many grocery categories, but their general merchandise tends toward crappy. You have to live in their "digital coupon hell" to make their prices competitive and sometimes the coupon values are really solid. (I should mention we live in a highly competitive grocery market.) But there are stretches where the coupons are useless for what we buy. We've found their Corporate Customer Service to be mediocre - the fact we know this about BJs and can't really comment about the other two speaks volumes. We laughed out loud when BJs raised their annual fee to $60. The only time we renew is when they offer $25 or less. One key thing about the BJs around us - our closest one is really mediocre - the other further away locations are better. All of them around us were cleared land, ground up new builds.
After repeatedly trying all of the helpful tricks others have posted with no success, I decided to reach out to their support team. I just got off of a looong chat with with a CSR and, even though I have periodically been a member in the past, they have no record it. The poor agent searched by my name, email address, phone number(s), home address, and even my old membership number after I unearthed a membership card from when I joined in 2019. 😅
It seems that I have completely disappeared from their database. Apparently, I am 💀 to them (even though I was getting the pop-up saying I wasn't eligible for the promotion since I'm a current member -- which I'm not).
So, since in their system I have no "past" expired membership, I cannot renew it.
Go figure! 😄
Hopefully, it's just me and others won't be rejected similarly.
(Note: My past membership was from a Groupon voucher, but the agent didn't suggest that this was the issue. And, it was clearly actively used at the time.)

"Your One Day Pass Has Expired
Purchase your BJ's Membership to continue to access great savings."
But this renewal offer page says "As a current member, you're not yet eligible for this offer."
Here's what is says under 'My Membership' website page: Your BJ's Membership will automatically renew on 11/01/2026.
A fee of $60 (plus applicable tax) for annual renewal of all memberships on your account will be charged to your default payment method below. If we cannot successfully charge your renewal fee on our initial billing attempt, for your convenience we will make additional attempts using any payment method(s) we have on record for your membership.
