It made no sense buying a 5gallon which cost $99+tax when you can buy 3 2-gallon buckets (6gal total) for the same price!

Depends on the weather as well.
If unopened, probably 5+ years minimum
If opened, probably a few years. Best you mix it every year just so it won't settle in the bottom for too long if you want to preserve it.
Usually it's cheap enough to where you would use the entire thing and not care, though.
