Plus one benefit of having another of the same unit, is that all the parts will work. So you don't have to pay for special masks or tubing like with the Air Mini, as you already have plenty from your DME provider.

I own both the Z2 auto and the airsense mini.
The z2 auto is awful. I hate it.
The airsense mini is far and away superior.
I agree a full size CPAP is fine for air or car travel. However, if you do backpacking or camping, the airmini is necessary.

Some good info on this thread, I'm going for my sleep apnea exam in Feb (5 month wait list) and have no idea what to expect so glad to read some info before hand. As many have mentioned I expected some sort of sale game with regards to the instruments. The reason I've put this off is because I figured they will of course tell me I have some sort of issue and then of course they will say I need to buy XXX and will run me several thousand dollars without ever getting to try one out first to see if it actually makes a difference. Did anyone ever get to try one out prior to making the purchase of the machine? But good to know if I do indeed go down this route I can buy one on the side market.

I think insurance companies make you rent them for a period of time to see if you are compliant with treatment. As for the study--you may want to ask for a sedative if you cannot sleep while wired up to the sensors.

Don't honestly remember, but would guess 30+ pounds

that said, awesome job on having lost 10 - it's not a fast journey, but every pound lost helps snowball into more pounds lost as you feel better and more energetic

The Air Mini I think you can get around $600. There is a deal posted on reddit and then you pm to Lofta for the extra 10%

People die or suffer with treatable disabilities or illnesses for those two reasons. All the time. It's very common. So is medical bankruptcy.
Of all the rich countries in the world, these are uniquely American problems. No one else treats their citizens like this. And we pay about twice in premiums what other countries pay in taxes.

Air sense 11 or the air sense 10 for $101+ less?

Anyone have experience with both -- is spending the extra $$$ justified to go with 11? (Primary use case: home usage only not travel)

It's not just about weight. You can be 120 pounds and still have sleep apnea. It also has to do with how your throat closes. Whether it's front to back, from the sides, or roughly one percent of people like me that it closes from all sides, which made me ineligible for the inspire implant, which really really pissed me off. I went from 260 pounds to 200 pounds and redid my sleep study and it was the exact same.

All of this, plus many insurance providers require "compliance monitoring" of some kind to ensure you use it for a certain number of hours or days a week. Personally, I have an 11 that was fully covered without all that drama, but if I hadn't met a deductible, I'd seriously consider paying out of pocket to not have to deal with that given my weird sleep schedule. The machine is good, but their app for patients kind of sucks, so pulling down the raw data yourself or from your provider can be nice. Once I got a good mask and machine, I really didn't care much about the data because I can feel the next day instantly if I did or didn't use it due to the occasional passing out before putting it on, and I only have a "mild" case of sleep apnea, though I've had it most of my adult life.

I doubt they will fabricate results to sell you a CPAP or BiPAP machine. If you think that, I'd be looking at another doctor. I've had two sleep studies—one in a lab when I was in the military and one with the take-home device as a civilian—both doctors weren't super optimistic about other options like surgery, which I'd assume they'd push if they wanted to "sell" something they'd benefit more from. If you get an RX for a CPAP, you can just take that to any local supply company in your area, which I highly recommend finding a nice one as they can be super helpful in finding you the right mask and getting you on a plan to reorder supplies. If you have insurance that covers supplies, just max it out for a year or two and stock up. You typically don't need to replace masks, tubes, etc. nearly as often as they recommend or as insurance will cover.

Best, smallest, minimalist mask is the ResMed P10 FYI. I tried a bunch of masks and then I tried that and it was a game changer. I just didn't like something on my face. I got claustrophobic, but the P10 was different. I wish I would've started with that from the beginning. As far as the $500 price tag on this machine, I paid that with insurance.
