This Legion 5i stands out as a well rounded gaming laptop for the money, with an Ultra 7 255HX, RTX 5060, 32GB of RAM, 1TB SSD, and a QHD plus OLED display. The extra memory and storage, along with the OLED panel, are the main reasons it feels stronger than cheaper 16GB and 512GB alternatives. The Intel chip is seen as efficient, but it may give up some battery life and Linux friendliness versus AMD. B and H's return policy is also a drawback, so it fits best when the specs and price are the priority.

  • Gamers and creators who want an OLED display plus 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD in one bundle because the commenters felt the $1149.99 price was justified versus deals with 512GB/16GB, and they specifically called out the OLED + "lots of ram" + "good ssd" + RTX 5060 as the value.

    DerrickHFDerrickHF

  • Buyers shopping around a specific price point who care about portability and don't want to pay more than about $1299 because one commenter said this "fit exactly into my price point" and they preferred it for being "a bit more portable" than an Alienware Aurora 16X at $1299.

    Dylawelt

  • People looking to run local LLMs who want enough memory/storage and are willing to dual-boot because one commenter said this was a "sweet spot" for running local LLM models, and they liked that they could dual boot since it has "2 SSD slots," while noting the main knock was Intel vs AMD tradeoffs.

    econometrician

  • Shoppers who are confident they'll keep the laptop and just want the best specs for the money because a commenter acknowledged B&H's return policy is "not great," but said "if you are certain you want the product, though, the deal still applies."

    Dylawelt

  • Buyers who strongly rely on easy returns/exchanges because commenters flagged B&H's policy as restrictive for opened computers (original packaging can't be unsealed), and listed multiple nonreturnable categories.

    BraveMustang5764

  • People who prioritize battery life and Linux smoothness above all because one commenter argued the Intel Ultra HX choice is a knock versus AMD, citing "better battery life + smoother Linux support" on the AMD version (and they planned dual booting as a workaround).

    econometrician

  • Buyers who want a less bulky laptop for everyday carrying because one commenter said "Personally I find the Legion too bulky," even while considering other Costco/Slickdeals options.

    ramblers

  • Shoppers comparing against higher-end Intel i9 HX deals who expect better efficiency and thermals because a commenter warned that i9 HX chips are "terrible at battery life and also overheat a lot," and argued Ultra HX is more efficient.

What am I missing? Why the down votes? Seems like a good Processor, lots of ram, a good ssd, an oled, and a 5060 (which is good enough for me) for 150 more than the other deals with 512mb and 16gb ram.

Honestly not sure, it may not be the best deal, but this fit exactly into my price point and I thought it might also for someone else. Especially with how crazy RAM prices are right now, the extra $150 doesn't seem bad. Only thing I can think of is the switch from AMD on the other/cheaper deals to Intel with this one, but from what I have seen this CPU is fairly efficient.

I'd be interested to see how others see it though! For me, I was trying to decide between this an Alienware Aurora 16X from BestBuy for $1299, this seemed like a better deal and a bit more portable.

Agreed. This feels though pretty good because the other "good" deal that people love is like that 800 dollar deal. Had an IPS instead of OLED, 512 ssd, 16gb ram for 350 less plus no Civ 7 (that I would buy anyway). Ram is so expensive....100 bucks a 16gb stick? 75 bucks for 1tb ssd. Couple hundred extra for the oled I guess?

Idk but I know B&H has the worst return/refund policy of all:

Nonreturnable Items
  • Opened TVs, combos and monitors 37" and larger — original packaging cannot be unsealed
  • Opened computers and computer software — original packaging cannot be unsealed
  • Electronic software downloads
  • Opened consumable items (e.g., film, tapes, paper, bulbs, CD, DVDs, ink cartridges, etc.)
  • Any computers built or modified by B&H to customer specifications
  • Select special-order merchandise, or any item indicated on the website as nonreturnable
  • Underwater equipment that has been submerged
  • Opened or unwrapped educational tapes and books

The $800 deal from Microcenter also has a smaller battery I think (60WH instead of the 80WH in the more expensive machines).

That is fair, their return policy isn't great. If you are certain you want the product, though, the deal still applies.

how does this compare to the recent costco deal for $50 more: https://www.costco.com/p/-/lenovo...?langId=-1. looks like a better processor on that one, plus presumably better perks (return policy, warranty, etc) with costco?

It looks like the Costco one has slightly weaker TGP on the 5060 (105W instead of 115). Otherwise, I am strongly considering both and Costco might win out since it comes with Costco perks.

And don't forget this Costco option if you are ok with a 5050. Personally I find the Legion too bulky,.

It's a different model though. The costco is the 16"version that is considerably larger.

This is the best laptop deal this season for me. The reason is you can combine it with the PayPal 20% promo and get this for a bit over 900+ tax. I've been looking for a decent laptop to run some local LLM models and this hit the sweet spot. Only knock on this one is Intel CPU, the AMD version has better battery life + smoother Linux support (I plan to dual boot this one since it has 2 SSD slots)

Costco deal doesn't have an OLED screen. Return policy definitely a win at Costco tho.
