Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless stands out for sound quality and long battery life, with strong clarity, neutral bass, and about 65 hours with noise canceling on. The sound is often described as better than Sony XM4 and XM5 models, and the ear pads are easy to replace if comfort needs a boost. The main tradeoffs are touch controls, transparency mode, and noise canceling that can feel less polished than Sony or Bose. Comfort also seems dependent on head shape, making this a strong fit for listeners who care most about audio.
Listeners who prioritize detailed sound over app polish, because the Momentum 4 is repeatedly described as sounding better than Sony XM4, XM5, and Bose alternatives.
People with larger heads who can tolerate a snug fit, because the ear cups can press on the ears after a few hours and aftermarket pads can improve comfort.
People who want the most reliable touch controls and auto-power behavior, because the touch controls can be finicky and the unit can switch on unexpectedly.
The Momentum 4 is repeatedly described as the stronger sound-first choice, with better clarity and more neutral bass than Bose models and better sound than Sony XM4/XM5 for many listeners. The tradeoff is that Sony and Bose are reported to offer better ANC, controls, and overall user experience.
Comfort is good for many people, but larger heads can feel pressure on the ears after a few hours. Ear pads are easy to replace, and cooling-gel or larger aftermarket pads can improve comfort if the stock fit is too snug.
Touch controls are a common complaint, and the auto-off/auto-on behavior has been reported as annoying. The auto-turn-on issue may have been fixed in later use, but the controls are still considered less refined than Sony or Bose.
Battery life is reported at about 65 hours with ANC on, which is a major advantage over many rivals. That long runtime is one of the main reasons shoppers favor it over Sony and Bose models.
I was going to pull the trigger on these but decided to read the Amazon reviews. A lot of reviewers complained about the touch controls and the "Auto-Off" feature which can sometime switch the unit on. A lot of positive reviews on the sound quality but the ANC was so-so or "meh" for many. Decided to pass on these and look at the Sony XM5's for a little bit more. Still deciding.
Wasn't a fan of the XM5s, sounded quite muddy out of the box and could never get it quite right with the EQs, not to mention the notorius "Hinge Issue". I liked the momentum 4s way better sound-wise, but the controls were annoying and the transparency mode was no good. Ended up with Sonos Ace. Had a premium feel, most comfortable headphones I tried, Best transparency mode besides Airpods Max or Bose Quietcomfort Ultras.
Sound was a little behind the Airpods Max, and some firmware updates have made them sound even better, not quite on par with the Momentum 4s, but they sound really good. Worth a look if you are in the market still
Significant upgrade? no. But they are better. I have had XM4s and I currently have these. These sound way better and the battery life is much better. these have a 65ish hour battery life with ANC on. The only issue I have with them is I have a big ass head and they kind of push on my ears so after a few hours my ears start to hurt. Not a lot but enough to be annoying. I designed and 3d printed an adapter to use the earpads off of beyerdynamic headphones. they are bigger and more comfortable but if you don't have a massive head like me they would be perfectly comfortable
Thats pretty genius! Do you the STL (or other file format) posted anywhere? My issue is typically my big ears, so I can sorta relate. great idea!
I've owned a number of decent headphones including Bose Quietcomfort Ultra, Bose earbuds, a couple AKG (Samsung), and my wife's Skull Candy. The Momentum 4 are the best sounding of the group. My Bose were bass heavy and sounded decent at low/ mid volume but distorted at higher volume. The M4's have neutral bass that isn't overpowering or distorted at higher volume. I'm super happy with mine
I can't decide between these or the Bose Quiet Comfort SC on sale at Sam's. I liked how comfortable the Bose fit me and the sound was great. I haven't find anywhere to test the Momentum 4s out.
Does anybody have experience with both and could give a comparison?
