Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on Switch is a solid arcade racer, and the $30 Walmart price undercuts other Black Friday listings by about $10. The game itself is described as lots of fun and very solid, and the Switch 2 upgrade path adds value for future owners. The upgrade is normally $10, but it is on sale for $5 through 12,12, with the physical cartridge likely still needed on Switch 2. Check the case before gifting, since one copy arrived without the cartridge.
Gift buyers who want to take advantage of the $30 Walmart price and free shipping because shipping is free with Walmart+ (30-day trial) or on $35+ orders, making the deal meaningfully cheaper than the next best price.
Sonic Racing fans who are timing their purchase around the Switch 2 digital launch because the upgrade is expected to be 50% off the week of the digital launch (from the regular $10).
People who plan to buy the Switch version now and still want to play immediately because you can open and play on Switch 1 with limitations (like frame rate/resolution) until the online upgrade prompts you to pay.
Buyers who need a guaranteed, gift-ready physical copy on day one because one commenter's case was missing the disc/cartridge and they had to advise checking the case before gifting.
Switch 2 owners who don't want to deal with upgrade logistics because the upgrade process is expected to require being online and likely inserting the physical cartridge into Switch 2 to initiate the upgrade.
People expecting the Switch 2 version to be the same as the Switch 1 experience right away because until the upgrade is available, it's limited to Switch 1 gameplay with constraints like frame rate and resolution.
The regular Switch 2 upgrade is $10, but it is reportedly 50% off for $5 starting today and ending 12/12. The Switch 2 version itself is also described as releasing in early December.
Walmart's price is $30, which is about $14.99 less than the next best reputable price starting at $44.99. One shopper also noted it was about $10 cheaper than anywhere else on Black Friday.
The upgrade process is expected to work like other Switch 1-to-Switch 2 upgrades: you can play the Switch 1 version first, then online it prompts you to pay for the upgrade. The physical cartridge will likely still need to be inserted on Switch 2 to start the upgrade.

How do you "upgrade" it? Do you just keep it unopened until the switch 2 version is released?
It should bw similar to the ps4->ps5 and Xbox upgrades.
You can open and play the game until then but it will be limited to switch 1 gameplay stuff like frame rate, resolution etc. Then when the update becomes available, IF you are online it will prompt you to pay for the upgrade/update.
You will almost certainly still need the physical cartridge inserted into the switch 2 to initiate this upgrade.

Friendly reminder to check your case before Christmas (if this is a gift). Mine was not and it was w/o the disc/catridge. I bought it on PS5, but wanted to post here as well.
